Job summary

NKC Health Anesthesiology is hiring an Anesthesia Technician to support CRNA and Anesthesiologist teams in the operating room. The role focuses on equipment prep, monitoring and safe patient transfers, with day shifts and strong teamwork.

You will help maintain anesthesia supplies, calibrate equipment, and assist with general, local, epidural, spinal and regional anesthesia procedures while supporting quick, safe patient care in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s Degree preferred.
• ASATT certification strongly preferred.
• Two years’ experience as an Anesthesia Technician in a level I or II facility.
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.
• Basic knowledge of anesthesia, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and clinical monitoring.
• Initiator of improvement and change; communicates promptly; promotes teamwork; adaptable to each provider; flexible work schedule including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Maintains inventory levels in OR suites and reports low PARS.
• Inspects, troubleshoots and calibrates all anesthesia equipment; coordinates with Biomed for issues.
• Assists with anesthesia procedures across general, local, epidural, spinal, regional blocks, and moderate sedation.
• Cleans and disinfects anesthesia machines, monitoring equipment, and carts; keeps equipment organized.
• Prepares and delivers anesthesia equipment and supplies to satellite locations; supports turnover.
• Consults with vendors; coordinates trials for supplies and equipment; looks for cost-effective alternatives.

What does an Anesthesia Technician do?

Anesthesia Technicians work under the guidance of a CRNA and Anesthesiologist in the operating room. They support the anesthesia providers in the acquisition, organization, preparation, application and maintenance of supplies and equipment required for the administration of anesthesia. They will provide support and assistance in anesthesia specific clinical procedures. They are responsible for the inspection of all anesthetizing locations.

What does a typical day on the job look like?

• Maintains sufficient inventory (PAR levels) in the OR suites. Monitors supplies during the day and replenishes as needed. Reports low PARS in the anesthesia workrooms to the OR and Anesthesia Support Technicians.
• Proficient in the use of all anesthesia equipment. Inspects, troubleshoots and calibrates all anesthesia equipment. Identifies and reports any malfunctioning equipment. Works with Biomed on malfunctioning and defective equipment.
• Provides assistance with anesthesia specific clinical procedures. Provides support with all types of anesthesia including general, local, epidural, spinal, regional blocks, and moderate sedation. Anticipates anesthesia provider needs. Responds quickly to provider requests. Supports the application of anesthetic principles related to critical event management. Assists with safe, monitored transfer of patients to other units in the hospital.
• Cleans and disinfects anesthesia machines, monitoring equipment and carts on turnover. Cleans and disinfects inside carts and machines on a regular basis. Organizes and labels equipment and supplies. Disposes of supplies and equipment as necessary.
• Performs expedient, prioritized turnover of OR suites with a sense of urgency and sets up the anesthesia environment with the appropriate equipment and supplies for the kind of case and acuity of the patient. Prepares and delivers anesthesia equipment and supplies to satellite locations.
• Consults with vendors on supplies and equipment. Coordinates trials for supplies and equipment. Looks for effective alternatives for purchases. Uses hospital resources responsibly.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

What are the requirements for the job?

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s Degree preferred
• Certification by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) strongly preferred
• Two years’ experience as an Anesthesia Technician in a level I or II facility
• Current BLS through the American Heart Association is required
• Basic knowledge of anesthesia, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and clinical monitoring
• Initiator of improvement and change; Communicates promptly and effectively; Promotes teamwork; Maintain professional working relationships; Handles stress in healthy manner; Adaptable to each provider; Flexible work schedule including weekends.
