Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn is seeking an Anesthesia Tech II to stock anesthetic supplies, maintain equipment, and assist clinicians with patient care in the operating rooms. The role includes setting up anesthesia machines, verifying supplies, and ensuring sterile technique across procedures.

The ideal candidate will have anesthesia tech training or 2 years of experience supporting anesthesia teams, familiarity with OR terminology, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an anesthesia tech program or 2 years of experience supporting anesthesia clinicians with patient care.
• Familiarity with Operating Room drug and equipment terminology.
• Must be able to read, write and follow instructions.
• Lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist during induction, maintenance and emergence from anesthesia.
• Assist with regional anesthetics, invasive monitoring, pain blocks and line placement.
• Transport patients and communicate with circulating nurses.
• Calibrate, troubleshoot and QA anesthesia machines and equipment.
• Set up IVs, central lines, arterial lines and airway devices using sterile techniques.
• Maintain clean, orderly work areas and report needed repairs.
• Ensure medical gas supplies and pipelines (N2O, O2, Medical Air) are ready.

Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Anesthesia Tech II.

In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for stocking anesthetic supplies for ORs, maintaining anesthetic equipment, ensuring anesthetic equipment is available and assisting clinicians with patient care.

Job Responsibilities:

Patient Care

• During induction, maintenance and emergence from anesthesia
• With the placement of regional anesthetics and invasive monitoring devices
• With pain blocks, epidurals, spinals, line placement and patient positioning
• With transporting patients
• Follows directives and protocols
• Communicates with circulating nurses
• Responds to Codes in line with duties

Equipment

• Calibrates and runs Quality Control and Quality Assurance analysis
• Calibrates and trouble-shoots anesthesia machines
• Sets up Level I RIS, syringe pumps, capnographs, TEG and TEEs
• Sets up intravenous, central venous, arterial, pulmonary artery catheters using sterile techniques, percutaneous introducer kits, double lumen kits, triple lumen kits, long arm CVP kits, chest tubes, ARNDT blockers, univent tubes, trans-tracheal intubations, fiberoptic scopes, LMAs, tube changers, jet ventilation and resuscitation bags.
• Clears debris and equipment from the surface and drawers of used anesthesia machines.
• Ensures the sterility and cleanliness of all machines
• Performs all standard procedural checks on equipment
• Assists with trouble shooting technical problems
• Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
• Informs Engineering and supervisor of needed repairs

Supplies

• Checks machine drawers to insure they are well stocked
• Makes available fluids, Lactated Ringers, Plasma Lite, Normal Saline, Hespan, Flextend, FFP, Whole Blood and Albumin
• Disposes of supplies used in regular and contaminated cases

Gases

• Ensures medical pipeline is operational, including N2O, O2 and Medical Air
• Checks the status of nitrous oxide, nitrogen and carbon dioxide cylinder banks to determine available supply pressure
• Replaces empty cylinders

Other

• Ensures workroom areas are clean and orderly before, during and after each shift
• Performs other related duties as requested

Minimum Qualifications:

• To qualify you must have a Graduate of an anesthesia tech program or 2 years of experience supporting anesthesia clinicians with patient care
• Familiarity with Operating Room drug and equipment terminology required
• Must be able to read, write and follow instructions
• Lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• ASATT Certification preferred
• Bachelors Degree
