Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists in Buzzards Bay and Dennis, MA, is seeking an experienced Veterinary Anesthesia Nurse to join our Surgery team, caring for surgical patients from drop-off through anesthesia and recovery. You’ll collaborate with surgeons and the anesthesiologist, develop individualized plans, monitor anesthesia, and support client communication.

This full-time position offers four 10-hour shifts, on-call as needed, and a sign-on bonus of up to $2,500.

Veterinary Anesthesia Nurse

Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists | Buzzards Bay and Dennis, MA

Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists is looking for an experienced anesthesia nurse to join our Surgery team. Working closely with our surgeons and anesthesiologist, you’ll care for surgical patients from drop-off through anesthesia and recovery.

This position works across our Buzzards Bay and Dennis hospitals, with one to two days each week in Dennis. It offers a focused surgical nursing role with opportunities to contribute your experience, discuss anesthetic plans, and continue developing your skills.

About the Role

You’ll help guide each patient through their surgical stay, preparing for their individual needs and providing attentive care before, during, and after anesthesia. You’ll collaborate with the medical team on patient-specific anesthetic and pain management plans, communicate with clients, and coordinate handoffs to support continuity of care.

What You’ll Do

• Welcome surgical patients at drop-off, review histories and care instructions, and communicate relevant information to the medical team.
• Prepare patients, equipment, and supplies for surgery and anesthesia.
• Work with surgeons and the anesthesiologist to carry out individualized anesthetic plans.
• Perform induction, monitoring, and recovery under veterinary direction.
• Recognize anesthetic trends and changes in patient status, communicate concerns, and respond appropriately.
• Administer prescribed treatments and support pain management and patient comfort.
• Prepare, maintain, and troubleshoot anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
• Maintain accurate anesthetic records and patient documentation.
• Provide client updates and review discharge instructions as directed.
• Coordinate patient handoffs and help train and support team members.

What We’re Looking For

• At least two years of anesthesia, surgery, or inpatient nursing experience, including hands-on anesthesia responsibilities.
• Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring and knowledge of analgesia and patient safety.
• Clinical judgment to recognize and respond to anesthetic complications.
• Clear, respectful communication with clients and colleagues.
• Organization and attention to detail throughout the surgical day.
• Willingness to work at both hospital locations.
• CVT, RVT, or LVT credentials strongly preferred, or ability to obtain credentials within six months.
• Advanced anesthesia or specialty surgery experience preferred.
• VTS in Anesthesia and Analgesia welcomed; support is available for nurses interested in pursuing advanced training.
• Ability to perform essential patient-care duties, with or without reasonable accommodation, including prolonged standing and assisting with lifting, positioning, and safely handling patients using team assistance and equipment as appropriate.

Schedule and Compensation

• This full-time position works four 10-hour shifts scheduled Monday through Friday, including one to two days per week in Dennis and the remaining days in Buzzards Bay.
• On-call responsibilities are scheduled as needed by the Surgery department.

• The initial training schedule may differ.
• Compensation is $22-$32 per hour, based on relevant experience, education, clinical skills, and internal equity. Most new hires can expect an offer between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
• A sign-on bonus of up to $2,500 is available.
