Job Description: The Coding Specialist II aligns with NM’s mission, values, and compliance standards. The role requires experience in anesthesia coding. Responsibilities include performing CPT and ICD-10 coding, ensuring documentation accuracy, training staff, resolving coding edits, and collaborating with revenue cycle teams. The position demands a deep understanding of disease processes, anatomy & physiology, pharmacology, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review medical records thoroughly, abstract and code physician services, including anesthesia, surgical, invasive, and drug infusion procedures.
  • Follow official coding guidelines to assign accurate CPT, ICD-10 codes, and modifiers with at least 95% accuracy.
  • Ensure charges are captured through reconciliation of various records.
  • Provide documentation feedback to physicians and train staff on documentation and coding.
  • Update and communicate coding guidelines, attend educational sessions, and resolve billing edits.
  • Collaborate with billing and revenue cycle teams to resolve claim issues and assist with appeals.
  • Meet productivity and quality standards for coding accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Certification: RHIA, RHIT, CPC, or CCS.
  • Experience: 0-2 years in relevant coding roles.
  • Accuracy: Minimum 94% on coding tests.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Health Information Management (CAHIIM-accredited).
  • Previous physician coding experience.
