Programmers.io is seeking experienced Device-Side Software QA Engineers for embedded systems in Sunnyvale, CA. You will validate device-side software, OS services, drivers, and firmware interfaces, and perform extensive functional, reliability, and regression testing across complex hardware/software environments.

You will analyze logs, crashes, and system traces, troubleshoot tough failures, and work with hardware, firmware, software, and automation teams to pinpoint root causes.

Qualifications

• Hands-on embedded/system QA experience below the application layer.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and defect isolation skills.
• Expertise in log analysis and crash analysis for system-level failures.
• Understanding of OS concepts: processes, threads, memory, IPC, boot flows.
• Experience with HAL, drivers, firmware interfaces, kernel modules, multimedia, connectivity, power.
• Proficient in test case development, defect tracking, and scripting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Validate device-side software, OS services, frameworks, middleware, drivers, and firmware interfaces.
• Perform functional, reliability, performance, power, boot, recovery, and regression testing.
• Analyze device logs, crash dumps, stack traces, kernel logs, and system traces.
• Troubleshoot complex system-level failures and perform root cause analysis.
• Collaborate with software, firmware, hardware, and automation teams to resolve defects.
• Develop scripts and utilities using Python, Shell, or Bash for diagnostics and test automation.

Must-Have Skills:

• Hands-on embedded or device-side software QA experience below the application layer.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and defect isolation skills.
• Expertise in log analysis, crash analysis, and system-level failure investigation.
• Understanding of OS concepts, processes, threads, memory, IPC, boot flows, and system services.
• Experience with HAL, drivers, firmware interfaces, kernel modules, multimedia, connectivity, power, or related subsystems.
