Job summary

OpenAI seeks an Android Systems Engineer to shape the Android platform behind AI-powered consumer experiences in SF. You will work across the Android stack, using system APIs and device capabilities to create deeply integrated experiences that scale across devices.

You will collaborate with product, design, AI, backend, and partner teams, delivering reliable, privacy-conscious solutions while staying current with new Android technologies. This hybrid role includes relocation assistance.

Qualifications

• Deep experience building and shipping Android software used by real customers.
• Strong knowledge of the Android platform beyond UI and application development, including framework APIs and system services.
• Experience with AOSP, system integrations, and privileged APIs.

Responsibilities

• Build deeply integrated Android experiences leveraging Android platform capabilities.
• Work across the Android stack: framework, system APIs, services, IPC, permissions, and notifications.
• Unlock device capabilities (audio, camera, sensors, connectivity) for AI-powered experiences.
• Develop agentic mobile experiences enabling multi‑step tasks across apps and services.
• Create scalable abstractions to support multiple Android devices and OEMs.
• Prototype new interaction models to explore capabilities and shape product direction.
• Own experiences end to end from exploration to production launch.
• Design for reliability, performance, privacy, and security across devices.
• Collaborate with product, design, backend, AI, and partner teams.
