We are seeking a skilled Android Engineer to design, build, and maintain high-quality Android applications supporting customer-facing retail experiences.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, Jetpack, MVVM architecture, and RESTful API integration. This role will work closely with product, backend, QA, and design teams to deliver reliable, scalable mobile experiences used by millions of customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain native Android applications using Kotlin and Java.
- Build responsive, high-performance UI using Jetpack Compose and/or traditional XML-based layouts.
- Implement app architecture following MVVM or MVI patterns for scalable, testable code.
- Integrate with backend services via RESTful APIs and handle data synchronization, caching, and offline support.
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to translate requirements and mockups into polished mobile features.
- Write and maintain unit and UI tests to ensure code quality and app stability.
- Optimize app performance, memory usage, and battery efficiency.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retros).
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, crashes, and performance bottlenecks using tools like Firebase Crashlytics.
- Manage app releases through the Google Play Store, including versioning, staged rollouts, and compliance.
- Integrate third-party SDKs (payments, loyalty, push notifications, analytics) relevant to retail/convenience commerce.
- Stay current with Android platform updates, best practices, and emerging tools.
Required Skills & Experience
- 4+ years of professional experience in native Android application development.
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin and solid working knowledge of Java.
- Hands-on experience with Android SDK, Jetpack libraries (Navigation, LiveData, Room, ViewModel, WorkManager).
- Experience with Jetpack Compose for modern declarative UI development.
- Solid understanding of MVVM/MVI architecture and clean code principles.
- Experience consuming RESTful APIs and working with JSON, Retrofit, or similar networking libraries.
- Experience with dependency injection frameworks (Hilt or Dagger).
- Familiarity with Git version control and CI/CD pipelines for mobile deployment.
- Experience writing unit tests (JUnit, Espresso, Mockito) and debugging with Android Studio profiling tools.
- Understanding of mobile app security, data privacy, and secure storage best practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional Agile teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in retail, convenience commerce, or loyalty/payments applications.
- Experience with mobile payments, POS integration, or loyalty program features.
- Familiarity with Kotlin Multiplatform or cross-platform frameworks.
- Experience with push notifications, geofencing, or location-based services.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and app performance optimization at scale.
