Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Team Lead for Android to own core product work, write code, review PRs, and guide features from idea to release. This hands-on role requires staying hands-on while coaching the team, reducing manual steps, and improving release reliability through automated checks and nightly builds.

You will collaborate across Product, Design, and Engineering in a flat organization that values leadership demonstrated through strong code quality and clear communication.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on.
• Deep experience with Android app development and modern Kotlin tooling.
• Proven ability to ship features end-to-end and drive quality through testing.
• Strong communication and collaboration across Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Experience applying architectural patterns and guiding teams through changes.

Responsibilities

• Own major features end-to-end, from idea through release with design input.
• Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
• Review pull requests and provide constructive feedback.
• Unblock the team and drive decisions when needed.
• Shape release processes and reduce manual interventions.
• Plan and balance work, ensuring teams focus on high-impact work.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering from early discussions.
• Handle critical issues and deliver nightly QA builds.
• Mentor and grow engineers, including those early in their careers.
