Job Description

The Willow team operates within the Information Solutions Clinical Applications group. They are responsible for the Epic build, maintenance, and support of our Pharmacy and inpatient medication ordering workflows. The Willow team partners very closely with our pharmacy leadership to ensure we are working on the highest priority requests. CT Children’s hospital is Magnet recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Demonstrates proficiency in understanding pharmacy workflows, pharmacy computer systems, medication dispensing, applications and interfaces. Demonstrates proficiency in data gathering techniques and the ability to devise, design and communicate systems solutions to client issues and problems of medium complexity. Demonstrates an intermediate understanding of the CT Children’s business functions, specifically medication workflows and billing. Requires specialized knowledge in Epic’s Willow InPatient module. Understands medication dispensing and dosing terminology as well as the available technical options or limitations. Analyzes and develops clinical workflows for efficiency and identifies improvements. Communicates effectively with clients and colleagues. Demonstrates proficient degree of analytical skills. Supports multiple concurrent work efforts, educates and coaches other team members, and works with minimal supervision in support of team initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • The responsibilities of a Willow Systems Analyst encompass identical responsibilities as an Associate Systems Analyst, but with a greater degree of complexity. A Systems Analyst also:
  • Support for applicable pharmacy applications and technical workflows, including Epic Willow InPatient, DoseEdge, and OmniCenter.
  • Build and maintenance of medication order sets for clinical pathways or other safety initiatives.
  • Evaluate and implement new Epic Willow functionality when it becomes available for feasibility and applicability.
  • Perform monthly medication load from FirstDataBank as part of a team rotation.
  • Employs proficient analytical skills to define systems information requirements and objectives for system application and interface maintenance or application enhancement requests and communicates to clients and programmers.
  • Prepares written documentation of the need for application changes or replacements, and coordinates staff and manages project plans for their implementation.
  • Drafts project scope plans, project plans, and issue logs; monitors and reports status of project plans to Lead IS staff and/or manager.
  • Prepares formal change implementation plans and monitors their implementation. Educate and coach other team members and work with minimal supervision in support of team members.
  • Provides technical expertise in the supported application. Works with application stakeholders to improve the effective utilization of the application.
  • May provide agreed levels of system administration and configuration.
  • Reports project issues and staff performance issues to Principal / Supervisor.
  • Participates in, develops, implements, documents and validates comprehensive test plans complying with current standards, designed to produce successful and failed outcomes.
  • Functions as a liaison to the system users and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical requirements, data flows and process flows.
  • Participates in the system selection process, including needs assessment, RFP and vendor selection.
  • May be required to travel to/from and work in the various CCMC locations, including patient care areas.
  • May be required to travel for mandatory certifications.
  • Understand and comply with all enterprise and IS departmental information security policies, procedures and standards.
  • Support the integration of information security in the development, design, and implementation of Hospital Technology Resources that process, transmit, or store CT Children’s information.
  • Support all compliance activities related to state, federal regulatory requirements, healthcare accreditation standards, and all other applicable regulations that govern the use and disclosure of patient, financial, or other confidential information.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Education Required: High School Diploma, GED, or a higher level of education that would require the completion of high school, is required.

Education and/or Experience Preferred:

  • Education Preferred: BA/BS Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or other related Health Care field, or equivalent demonstrated work experience preferred.
  • Experience Preferred: Two to five years relevant experience within a healthcare or pharmacy environment highly desired or equivalent demonstrated knowledge and capability preferred.
  • One to three years Information Systems Analyst experience highly desired. Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, etc.). Knowledge of project development life cycle preferred.

License and/or Certification Required:

  • Epic Willow InPatient certification preferred. Training will be provided as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Medical and medication terminology.
  • Web-based technologies, processes, and analytics.
  • Employing software quality assurance and testing concepts, techniques, industry best practices, tools and standards.
  • Best practices in pharmacy workflows, Time and Attendance, Human Resources, Payroll, and Labor Analytics is preferred.
