WATN WLMT-TV Memphis a TEGNA ABC/CW affiliate in Memphis has an exciting opportunity for a creative, innovative, and enterprising Anchor who is an excellent on-camera communicator to serve our audience and community. We seek a journalist skilled in accountability reporting and breaking news, who will help shape the future of news, find and defend the truth, and tell compelling stories of our community. The ideal candidate is comfortable asking tough but fair questions, can collaborate with producers to craft engaging newscasts, and understands the 'why' behind stories to deliver impact journalism. This newsroom leader will develop community contacts to create and present unique, compelling, and innovative stories.

Current driver's license and ability to operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations is required.

Responsibilities :

  1. Use editorial judgment to determine the content of newscasts.
  2. Collaborate with producers and team to create unique, fast-paced, innovative newscasts.
  3. Utilize social media to identify content and highlight social stories.
  4. Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media.
  5. Develop story ideas, write, shoot, and edit news stories for broadcast.
  6. Create original content through social listening and independent sources.
  7. Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors or executive producers.
  8. Journalism and/or Communication degree preferred.
  9. Understand professional journalism principles.
  10. Excellent presentation and writing skills are essential.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum 5-7 years of news anchoring/reporting experience.
  2. Develop story ideas, write, shoot, and edit news stories for various platforms.
  3. Write engaging, authentic stories.
  4. Use modern editing and photography tools effectively.
  5. Create original content through social listening and sources.
  6. Deliver accurate, engaging on-air news.
  7. Interview subjects and verify facts.
  8. Post daily on digital and social platforms.
  9. Enterprise and web writing skills, including multimedia integration.
