Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of hospital laboratory experience.
  • Prior laboratory leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, quality management and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience managing staff, workflows, and departmental performance.
  • Budgeting, operational planning and process improvement experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily Anatomic Pathology operations and laboratory workflow.
  • Supervise laboratory personnel, including supervisors, cytotechnologists, histotechnologists, scientists, and laboratory assistants.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Manage quality control programs and monitor departmental performance metrics.
  • Oversee staff training, orientation, competency assessments, and continuing education.
  • Monitor turnaround times and implement process improvements.
  • Develop departmental goals, objectives, and operational budgets.
  • Manage hiring, employee evaluations, coaching, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with vendors to resolve equipment, software, and operational issues.
  • Support laboratory information systems and workflow optimization.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and performance improvement projects.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.

  • Lead daily operations of the Anatomic Pathology department
  • Ensure compliance with hospital, regulatory, and accreditation standards
  • Oversee laboratory quality control, operational performance, and turnaround times
  • Manage, mentor, and develop laboratory supervisors and staff
  • Support departmental budgeting, staffing, and strategic initiatives
  • Drive process improvements and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Serve as a resource for technical, operational, and personnel-related matters

RequirementsEducation
  • Bachelor's degree required
Experience
  • Minimum 4-6 years of relevant hospital laboratory experience required

  • Experience managing staff, workflows, and departmental performance
  • Budgeting, operational planning, and process improvement experience preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • One of the following New York State licenses required:
    • Clinical Laboratory Technologist
    • Cytotechnologist
    • Histotechnologist
    • Pathologists' Assistant
  • ASCP Certification preferred
