Join Modulate as we pioneer the future of conversational intelligence.

Modulate is the leader in conversational voice intelligence. We enable platforms to deeply understand how their users connect and take timely actions based on those insights. Our flagship product, ToxMod, analyzes millions of voice interactions each month and escalates disruptive behavior (harassment, hate, exploitation risk) and prosocial behavior (supportive comments, collaboration) to Trust & Safety teams. Top gaming studios, including Activision, Rockstar, and Ubisoft rely on ToxMod to protect players and support moderators. Gig economy marketplaces use our voice intelligence capabilities to detect similar violations, preventing real-world harms and uncovering fraud and account‑takeover scams. We also accelerate high‑risk calls to improve response times and retention, unlocking voice for our customers and partners. Identifying and escalating that behavior to safety teams is only a part of what we do. We provide leaders on these teams with the information they need to make the best decisions about how to protect their community. We’re always learning alongside our customers and being challenged by new use cases for our technology. The reports we create and deliver to our customers and partners help them create robust moderation strategies, figure out where to deploy our products for maximum impact, and transparently report their progress to the industry and to regulators.

Your Impact
  • The ability of analysts, Customer Success, and business partners to generate insights with confidence and speed
  • The scalability and reliability of Modulate’s data ecosystem as our products and customers grow
  • How customers and partners understand and act on safety, trust, and community health data
  • The company’s data culture—by shaping best practices, enforcing standards, and enabling transparency across teams
What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain reliable data models that enable analysts and stakeholders to work with clean, consistent, and scalable datasets
  • Write and optimize SQL queries and transformations to ensure efficiency, clarity, and maintainability across the analytics codebase
  • Implement and enforce engineering best practices in the data analytics workflow (version control, testing, documentation)
  • Collaborate with Data Analysts to transform fragmented raw data into intuitive data tables and data pulls
  • Develop and maintain documentation of datasets, metrics definitions, and data processes to promote clarity and self‑service
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams (Engineering, Product, Customer Success) to ensure data pipelines and structures support business needs and new product features
  • Contribute to projects involving custom data delivery (data pulls, data insights, and microservices) that expand the company’s customer‑facing data capabilities
  • Provide code review and collaboration within the data team to ensure code quality, knowledge sharing, and technical growth of the team
  • Lean into and align with Modulate's culture of feedback, autonomy, and transparency
  • Keep up to date on advancements in the data space that may contribute to the continual improvements of data analytics tooling that strengthen scalability and reliability of the data ecosystem at Modulate
  • Stay current on advancements in data engineering and analytics tooling to strengthen scalability and reliability across Modulate’s data ecosystem
What We’re Looking For
  • 3-5 years of experience developing reports or building software that adheres to specifications provided by product owners or other non‑technical stakeholders
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced startup environment where priorities may shift quickly; able to balance speed with long‑term maintainability
  • Ability to visualize the relationships between data and to express those relationships, both in writing and verbally
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a detail‑oriented mindset and a bias toward building for reuse and scale
  • Experience working with large‑scale databases (billions of records per customer)
Technical Skills
  • Expert‑level proficiency in SQL (query writing, optimization, modeling)
  • Proficiency in Python (or another high‑level programming language) for scripting and automation
  • Cloud data warehouses and foundational experience with big data analytics platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, AWS Kinesis, Power BI, or equivalent)
Bonus Points For
  • Experience with CI/CD workflows, testing frameworks, or data observability tools
  • Background in data governance, documentation standards, or analytics enablement
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies (kanban or scrum)
Benefits
  • Competitive salary + equity
  • Full health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Flexible PTO, with a strong culture of taking it
  • Weekly team lunches with dietary accommodations
  • Hybrid work: core in‑office days with flexible remote options
  • Regular leadership and industry learning sessions
  • Support for career development and continued learning
  • A deeply inclusive, human‑centered culture
