Job description

Job Duties

Provides day-to-day technical supervision of testing personnel, ensuring proper performance of all laboratory procedures and reporting of test results. Promotes standardization through collaboration and coordination within a specialty.

  1. Performs technical duties and provides technical knowledge and support to staff and clients within a department of responsibility.
  2. Analyzes technical problems and resolves them according to established laboratory policies.
  3. Reviews test results, quality control records, proficiency testing results, and preventative maintenance records.
  4. Ensures remedial actions are taken whenever test systems and Quality Assurance deviate from established performance specifications.
  5. Collaborates on planning capital purchases and leases with the appropriate Doctoral Director and Operations Director.
  6. Participates in the development of new testing, validation, and evaluation of new equipment, reagents, instrumentation, and technologies with the Director and system colleagues.
  7. Maintains knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and ensures compliance.
  8. Participates in cost analysis for materials and negotiations for favorable contracts.
  9. Responsible for section purchasing, receiving, and inventory management to reduce costs.
  10. Manages effective cost accounting and cost management.
  11. Maintains adequate supply inventory.
  12. Coordinates the development and review of policy and procedure manuals with the Director and system colleagues.
  13. Provides orientation and training to new employees, monitoring and documenting their performance.
  14. Participates in annual performance appraisals.
  15. Collaborates with colleagues at other lab locations to ensure system-wide standardization.
  16. Member of the Best Practice Committee for their area.
  17. Encourages service-oriented behavior to support and meet client needs.
  18. Provides timely consultations and takes prompt action to resolve issues.
  19. Participates in educational activities to acquire new skills and maintain proficiency.

Work is performed in a clinical environment. The role requires compliance with all organizational policies and procedures. Additional department-specific competencies may be required.

Medical Laboratory Scientist: Toxicology

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution AND successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program OR;
  • 5 years of experience.
  • Hiring Incentive: This position qualifies for a $12,500 SIGN ON BONUS for eligible candidates.
