Job summary

Koch Modular is seeking a skilled Analytical Chemist to support pilot plant studies through routine laboratory analyses, wet chemistry work, and method development. The role requires 5+ years of chemistry experience and familiarity with spectroscopy, GC, HPLC, IC and ICP.

Responsibilities include maintaining calibration records, collaborating with senior chemists, interacting with clients and engineers, and ensuring a safe, organized lab environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience is required.
  • Familiarity with analytical chemistry techniques including spectroscopy, GC, HPLC, IC and ICP is preferred.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting is advantageous and is mandatory; internships or academic projects will be considered.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine laboratory analyses using spectroscopy (ICP, UV, IC), GC, and HPLC for pilot plant studies.
  • Perform wet chemistry analyses (Karl Fischer water content, moisture balance, ammonia, pH, densities) and maintain calibration records.
  • Support client-driven pilot plant experiments and assist with method development and validation.
  • Collaborate with senior chemist to troubleshoot and optimize processes.
  • Prepare calibration standards and samples; document results clearly and timely.
  • Maintain lab safety, cleanliness, and inventory of supplies and equipment.

Job description

  • Conduct routine laboratory analyses which may support pilot plant study using techniques such as spectroscopy (ICP, UV, IC), gas chromatography, and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
  • Perform wet chemistry analysis such as: Water content by Karl Fischer, NVR by Moisture Balance, Ammonia with use of electrode, pH, Densities, etc. and maintain accurate records of all calibrations, procedures, and results.
  • Perform project experiments based on client needs for multi-step analysis.
  • Assist in the development and validation of analytical methods in support of pilot plant study.
  • Assist with method requirements issued by a client or analytical standard such as: ASTM, UOP methods etc.
  • Utilize spectrophotometers and other laboratory equipment to analyze samples and ensure quality data is measured and reported for pilot plant studies.
  • Collaborate with senior chemist to troubleshoot experimental issues and optimize processes as required or needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment, always adhering to safety protocols.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss project progress, share findings, and contribute ideas for improvement.
  • Interact with clients and pilot plant engineers and operators in support of pilot plant studies and projects.
  • Assist with supplies and chemicals ordering in supporting pilot plant lab needs and meet client research project requirements.
  • Ability to actively interact and utilize lab equipment, make standards-based project needs; with understanding of calculations of concentrations.
  • Assist and/or prepare calibration standards, samples for evaluation using various lab techniques and ability to follow various method protocols.
  • Possessing good communication skills, provide written and verbal reports as needed and in a timely manner.
  • Support all lab inventory of supplies and maintenance documentation.
  • Analytical troubleshooting skills are a must.
  • Assist in lab instrumentation maintenance and some experience/knowledge of various instrumentation repair needs are a plus.
  • Participate in various inventories required for lab operations such as chemical inventory, instrument maintenance, GC and HPLC column inventory, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining analytical lab scales weight check calibrations at various intervals; required when making low detection standards.

  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills with good attention to detail and the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects.
  • While working in the present and supporting current projects, always stay mindful of future projects.
  • The ability to do work autonomously, however mostly working as part of a team.
  • Organized, responsive, proactive team player, able to manage a high-volume workload while still staying focused on meeting project and customer objectives.
  • Ability to be innovative thinker, perform under pressure and navigate through analytical demands for laboratory support to our clients and engineers.
