Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze, and assess federal regulatory, legislative, and policy developments affecting the airline industry.

  • Prepare briefing materials, reports, and presentations for internal and external meetings.
  • Evaluate regulatory actions, legislative proposals, and industry developments and communicate impacts to stakeholders.

  • Maintain tracking tools, databases, and reporting materials related to policy matters.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to gather information and support regulatory initiatives.

The Analyst, Federal Affairs supports American Airlines' engagement with federal regulatory and legislative stakeholders by conducting research and analysis, evaluating emerging regulatory issues, and providing strategic insights on matters impacting the aviation industry and the company. Based in Washington, D.C., this role assists in tracking legislative and regulatory activity, preparing briefing materials, and gathering insights to support Government Affairs initiatives. Working closely with internal stakeholders and team members, the Analyst helps ensure the company remains informed about federal policy developments and emerging regulatory matters.

Pay Range: $72,000-$131,000

Monitor, analyze, and assess federal regulatory, legislative, and policy developments affecting the airline industry

Conduct research and analysis on federal issues and summarize findings for Government Affairs leadership and business partners

Assist in preparing briefings, reports, presentations, and background materials for internal and external meetings

Evaluate and summarize regulatory actions, legislative proposals, and industry developments and communicate potential impacts to stakeholders.

Support responses to information requests and assist with regulatory and compliance-related activities

Maintain tracking tools, databases, and reporting materials related to policy and regulatory matters

Collaborate with internal business partners to collect information and support ongoing regulatory initiatives

Assist with meeting preparation, stakeholder communications, and administrative activities related to Government Affairs priorities

Support special projects and analyses as assigned

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, economics, business, law, or a related field
2 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, regulatory affairs, legislative affairs, research, congressional, or federal agency environments

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

Recent experience working in or with federal agencies, and/or congressional offices
Exposure to federal legislative or regulatory processes
Experience conducting research and preparing reports or presentations
Familiarity with aviation, transportation, or other highly regulated industries
Experience supporting projects involving multiple stakeholders

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

Demonstrated ability to analyze complex regulatory and policy issues, synthesize information from multiple sources, and communicate business implications to senior leadership.

Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Ability to gather, organize, and summarize information from multiple sources

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Ability to prepare clear reports, presentations, and briefing materials

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment

Ability to learn and apply knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes
