Job summary

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) Atlanta seeks a candidate for the Infrastructure Development & Automation team to build and maintain in-house automation platforms and monitoring tools. The role provides hands-on experience across systems automation, computer networks, and enterprise-scale solutions within a global organization.

Qualifications

  • Computer Science degree completed or in-progress, or ability to demonstrate equivalent experience.
  • Novice-level software development skills in at least one language (Python, TypeScript, Go, or C++).
  • Strong written and oral communication across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain software interfacing with servers, storage, network devices, tools, databases, and user input.
  • Gather requirements from business owners and create diagrams to explain solutions.
  • Maintain SDLC process and release management adherence.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure data sources and security requirements are met.
  • Create and maintain documentation of system components and operation.
  • Write unit and integration tests to ensure reliability.
  • Assist training of end-users on new tooling.

Our infrastructure is designed from the ground up to meet our unique performance constraints while remaining impeccably reliable. By joining the Infrastructure Development & Automation team, you will aid us in building and maintaining this infrastructure as well as helping us continue to push the envelope with state-of-the-art technologies.

Overview

By joining the Infrastructure Development & Automation team, you will aid us in building and maintaining this infrastructure as well as helping us continue to push the envelope with state-of-the-art technologies.

A successful candidate will gain invaluable hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment and innovative technologies in systems automation, computer networks, as well as an understanding of network protocols, concepts, and solutions. The experience will not be limited to technology – this is also an opportunity to get a good understanding of the operation of a global organization, how global teams interact, how projects are developed, solutions implemented, and how strategies are executed.

This role will have you joining our Infrastructure Development & Automation team where you will be working on our in-house automation platforms, advanced infrastructure monitoring tooling, and other internal development projects within the Infrastructure/Operations vertical. You will be exposed to all layers of these tools as well as learning the enterprise Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes at ICE. In time you will help support other teams’ use of these tools and develop new features or improve existing ones.

Responsibilities
  • Write and maintain software that interacts with various server platforms, storage solutions, network devices, tools, databases, and user input
  • Gather requirements from relevant business owners
  • Create wireframes or diagrams to explain solutions
  • Keep project stakeholders updated on progress
  • Help ensure an orderly release management and SDLC process is followed
  • Meet with technologists from other teams to ensure all new software appropriately captures the requirements, uses the best data sources, and does so in a secure manner
  • Create and maintain documentation of system components and their operation
  • Write unit and integration tests that ensure system reliability
  • Help train end-users on the use of any new tooling
  • Maintain and improve tools and sub-components, growing toward ownership over time
Knowledge And Experience
  • Computer Science (or related field) degree completed or in-progress, or the ability to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Novice-level software development skills with, or willingness to learn, at least one programming language (Python, TypeScript, Go (golang), or C++ preferred), including: understanding of first-order syntax and vernacular (conditionals, built‑ins), writing simple functions and functional‑style scripts, and an understanding of what objects are
  • Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with others on both an ad hoc and project team basis, across organizational boundaries
  • Self-organizing, with a willingness to work through assigned tasks and ask for help when needed
Preferred Knowledge And Experience
  • Development ability in Python, TypeScript, Go (golang), or C++
  • Familiarity with GNU/Linux operating systems
  • Familiarity with a DVCS (e.g. git)
  • Exposure to relational database systems (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite)
  • Exposure to RPC or RESTful APIs
  • Ability to work with JSON, XML, YAML, and proprietary data interchange formats
  • Familiarity with development dependency management tools (e.g. npm, pip, maven, etc)
  • Familiarity with unit and integration testing
  • Exposure to web/application frameworks (e.g. Flask, FastAPI, Angular)
  • A self‑driven approach to learning, with comfort asking for help and the ability to self-investigate issues before escalating
Illinois Base Salary Range

The expected base salary for this role, if located in Illinois, is between $75,000 – $90,000 USD. The base salary range does not include Intercontinental Exchange’s incentive compensation. While we provide this range as general guidance, at ICE we compensate employees based on the skillset and experience of the individual. Regular full-time ICE employees are eligible for a suite of competitive employee benefits, including healthcare coverage (medical, dental and vision), a 401(k) plan, life insurance, time off, and paid leave for qualifying circumstances.
