Job summary

Dallas College is actively seeking a cyber security professional to monitor and protect its information systems and networks. The role focuses on detecting vulnerabilities, responding to incidents, and coordinating remediation efforts across campuses and cloud platforms.

The position requires a foundational degree or equivalent experience, strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to work outside normal hours as needed. A background check is required.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in computer science or cyber security with 2-3 years of relevant experience, or meaningful equivalent work.

Position Summary

Position plays a vital role in keeping Dallas College’sproprietary and sensitive information secure. Responsible formonitoring one or more of the college’s computer informationsystems, networks, or cloud-based platforms for security issues andidentifying/correcting flaws while identifying specific areas forimprovement in the College’s security posture.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A demonstrated ability to read and understand informationsecurity laws and regulations combined with technical experience ininformation technology is needed.

  • Ability to perform structured testing of networks, computers,applications, and other IT systems to detect exploitablevulnerabilities.

  • Must be able to continually adapt to stay up to date on ITsecurity and the latest methods attackers are using to infiltratecomputer systems.

  • Ability to analyze relevant cyber security data and otherinformation sources for suspicious network traffic, attackindicators and potential security breaches; produce reports, andassist in coordination efforts during incidents.

  • Requires a high degree of diplomacy, customer service,accountability, and the ability to work as part of a team.

  • Ability to act ethically and independently duringinvestigations, while maintaining strict confidentiality andcompliance with Dallas College policies, local, state, and federallaws, rules, and regulations.

  • Ability to collaborate within a broad range of internal/externalstakeholders and constituents to assist with defining technicalapproaches and roadmaps for products and service standards thatimpact the district’s security.

  • Assist with the development of design controls and servicealternatives that improve the district defenses againstcyber-attacks.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat forcreating and maintaining documentation, reports and fillableforms.

  • Working knowledge of anti-virus software and a conceptualunderstanding of firewall, security information and eventmanagement (SIEM), intrusion detection/prevention systems(IDS/IPS).

  • Ability to identify potential impact to customers through theanalysis of forensic reports and the examination of malware, todetermine associated indicators of compromise.

  • Able to distribute countermeasures to detect and preventidentified threats.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to provideclear and concise communication effectively via various mediaincluding presentations, oral, and written communication.

  • Must be able to interact effectively with individuals within theDallas College community network.

  • Requires excellent time management, planning, and organizationalskills.

  • Must be able to adapt to changing work environments, workpriorities, and organizational needs to meet businessobjectives.

  • Must have excellent customer service skills.

  • Must have the ability to maintain the security and integrity ofthe critical infrastructure of Dallas College.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for security and analysis in support of DallasCollege’s information privacy and cyber security program,information services, and supporting systems.

  • Operates various security applications and tools while adheringto strict guidelines and procedures to respond to and mitigatesecurity events that compromise the integrity, confidentiality, oravailability of Dallas College information assets.

  • Protect digital files and information systems againstunauthorized access, modification, or destruction.

  • Monitors computer networks and cloud infrastructure for securitybreaches and other cyber security incidents.

  • Investigates threats and vulnerability alerts to determinecurrent impact and coordinate remediation actions, asnecessary.

  • Attends meetings and provides consultation on cyber securityissues and concerns.

  • Research emerging information security technologies to determinewhich solutions provide the most effective protection to theorganization.

  • Mitigates the impact of cyber‐attacks by developing,distributing, and sharing countermeasures that may impact networksand information systems.

  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined cyber securitypractices and policies.

  • Selects methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion forobtaining desired results and increased productivity.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Developmenttraining hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a significant, meaningful, andrelevant field; or 4+ years of substantial experience in lieu of adegree.

  • Associate’s degree in computer science or cyber security with2-3 years of relevant experience in computer safety and security,or significant and meaningful equivalent work.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 1-4+ years of cyber securityexperience.

  • Preferred certifications to obtain (not required):

    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

    • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)

    • Center of Digital Forensics Academic Excellence (CDFAE)

Basic programming skills in multiple languages are a plus.

  • Due to the nature of cyber security, this position may requireworking outside normal business hours and being on call to respondto security incidents as they occur.

  • Official transcripts are required.

  • May require a current and valid driver’s license if travellingon behalf of Dallas College.

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
