Job summary

Houston City College is seeking a Cyber Security Analyst who will assist in developing and enforcing IT security policies, standards, and technologies to protect information assets. You will monitor systems, support incident response, and ensure compliance with NIST, FERPA, CJIS, and HIPAA, among others.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field required.
• 8 years directly related work experience may be substituted in lieu of degree

• Hands-on experience with security engineering tools
• Higher Education experience preferred.

Job Summary

The Cyber Security Analyst, under the direction of the Director of Cyber Security & Compliance, assists in developing, implementing, and enforcing IT infrastructure security policies, standards, guidelines, and technologies. Ensures security configurations and controls effectively safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information assets in compliance with higher-education regulatory, privacy, and governance requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive Information Security Program.
• Support the implementation and administration of strategic and operational programs within the HCC IT Cyber Security program.
• Monitor systems for security events, investigate incidents, and support incident response and remediation efforts.
• Support compliance with applicable standards and regulations (e.g., NIST, GDPR, FERPA, CJIS, PCI DSS, HIPAA, Texas DIR).
• Coordinate and maintain security-related policies, procedures, security standards and best practices.
• Contribute to the development of Security Risk Assessments and conducts risk assessments as needed.
• Participate in vulnerability assessments, security evaluations and reviews. Contribute to the evaluation, implementation, and management of security solutions and processes, and assist in remediating audit and assessment findings.
• Research and stay abreast of new vulnerabilities and exploit that may compromise the Institution.
• Evaluate risk and work with inter-departmental personnel to address vulnerabilities.
• Provide guidance to departments on regulatory requirements, institutional policies, and cyber security best practices.
• Contribute to inter-departmental and cross-functional working groups. Assist to remediate audit and assessment findings.
• Assist with the security projects and technology implementations. Meet project deadlines.Develop and maintain documentation for all assigned projects.
• Contribute to the evaluation, implementation and management of security solutions and processes.
• Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

• ·Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field required
• ·8 years directly related work experience may be substituted in lieu of degree
• ·5 years’ experience with progressively increasing responsibility in related subject matter
• ·Hands-on experience with security engineering tools
• ·Higher Education experience preferred

Licensing & Certification

• ·Valid Texas Driver License
• ·CISSP, CEH, CCSP, or GSEC certification preferred.
