Job summary

Houston Community College in Houston, TX is seeking a Cyber Security Analyst to assist in developing, implementing, and enforcing IT security policies, standards, and technologies to protect information assets.

Under the Director of Cyber Security & Compliance, you will monitor systems for security events, support incident response, and ensure compliance with standards such as NIST, FERPA, CJIS, and PCI DSS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field is required.
• 8 years of directly related work experience may substitute for a degree.
• 5 years’ experience with progressively increasing responsibility.
• Hands-on experience with security engineering tools.
• Higher Education experience preferred.
• CISSP, CEH, CCSP, or GSEC certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive Information Security Program.
• Support the implementation and administration of strategic and operational programs within the HCC IT Cyber Security program.
• Monitor systems for security events, investigate incidents, and support incident response and remediation efforts.
• Support compliance with standards and regulations (e.g., NIST, GDPR, FERPA, CJIS, PCI DSS, HIPAA, Texas DIR).
• Coordinate and maintain security-related policies, procedures, standards and best practices.
• Contribute to Security Risk Assessments and conducts risk assessments as needed.
• Participate in vulnerability assessments, security evaluations and reviews; assist in evaluating, implementing, and managing security solutions.
• Research and stay abreast of new vulnerabilities and exploits that may compromise the Institution.
• Evaluate risk and address vulnerabilities with inter-departmental teams.
• Provide guidance on regulatory requirements, institutional policies, and cyber security best practices.
• Contribute to cross-functional working groups and remediation of audit findings.
• Assist with security projects, meet deadlines, and maintain documentation.

The Cyber Security Analyst, under the direction of the Director of Cyber Security & Compliance, assists in developing, implementing, and enforcing IT infrastructure security policies, standards, guidelines, and technologies. Ensures security configurations and controls effectively safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information assets in compliance with higher-education regulatory, privacy, and governance requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive Information Security Program.

Support the implementation and administration of strategic and operational programs within the HCC IT Cyber Security program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field required
• 8 years directly related work experience may be substituted in lieu of degree
• 5 years’ experience with progressively increasing responsibility in related subject matter
• Hands-on experience with security engineering tools
• Higher Education experience preferred

Licensing & Certification

• CISSP, CEH, CCSP, or GSEC certification preferred.
