Job summary

Liebherr Mining Equipment Newport News Co. offers a six-month Engineering Intern role supporting mining equipment projects. The intern works with engineering staff on projects per an individualized training plan and collaborates with designers and production personnel.

Currently enrolled students must have 60 hours toward an related Engineering degree. Travel up to 20% and MSHA safety training are expected; a valid driver’s license is required. Python and ML are desirable skills.

• Willing to travel nationally up to 20% to customer or supplier sites for training.
• Ability to obtain MSHA hazard training and a valid driver’s license.

Job description

The Engineering Intern performs basic engineering functions in support of mining equipment.
This internship spans a six-month period.

• This position is not eligible for sponsorship. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

• Works with the Engineering staff on projects outlined in the individualized intern training plan.
• Works independently and as a team member with other Engineers, Designers, and production personnel or on ad hoc projects.

Competencies

Education and Experience:

• Current active student in good standing who has complete 60 hours towards a related Engineering Bachelor’s degree.

Additional Requirements:

• Is expected to travel nationally up to 20% to customer or supplier sites for some training plans.
• Ability to complete and maintain mine certifications or safety training such as Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) hazard training.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Python and Machine Learning are desired.
