Qualifications

• 3+ years of industrial ammonia refrigeration experience.
• RETA CIRO or CARO certification strongly encouraged.
• Strong knowledge of PSM/RMP, IIAR standards, and ammonia refrigeration practices.
• Ability to read P&IDs, electrical/mechanical schematics, and manuals.
• Experience with maintenance tracking and documentation in CMMS.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain industrial ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance in line with IIAR and PSM/RMP.
• Troubleshoot system issues and respond to alarms promptly.
• Conduct daily inspections and maintain maintenance records.
• Support compliance audits, safety training, and inspections.
• Assist with boilers, air compressors, HVAC, and water systems maintenance.
• Collaborate with production to minimize downtime and ensure reliability.
• Follow LOTO, confined-space, chemical handling, and PPE procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Ammonia Maintenance Mechanic to support the safe and efficient operation of industrial ammonia refrigeration and utility systems within a food manufacturing environment.

This role is responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, system monitoring, and maintaining compliance with IIAR standards, PSM/RMP requirements, and company safety policies.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on mechanical and ammonia refrigeration experience, a proactive approach to maintenance, and the ability to work effectively in an industrial production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and maintain industrial ammonia refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, controls, and related equipment.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with PSM/RMP and IIAR standards.
• Troubleshoot refrigeration system issues and respond promptly to alarms and equipment problems.
• Conduct daily system inspections and maintain accurate maintenance and operational documentation.
• Support PSM/RMP compliance activities, audits, inspections, and safety training.
• Assist with maintenance and operation of plant utility systems, including boilers, air compressors, HVAC, and water systems.
• Work closely with production and maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Follow all company safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined-space procedures, chemical handling, and required PPE.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training .
• 3+ years of industrial ammonia refrigeration experience.
• RETA CIRO or CARO certification strongly .
• Strong knowledge of PSM/RMP, IIAR standards, and industrial refrigeration best practices.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical/mechanical schematics, and technical manuals.
• Strong troubleshooting and mechanical repair skills.
• Experience using a CMMS for maintenance tracking and documentation.
• Ability to work in cold, wet, and confined environments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on maintenance position in a refrigerated food production/industrial manufacturing environment. The position may require working in cold, wet, noisy, or confined areas. Employees are required to follow all applicable safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
