Job summary

GoodwillSR AmeriCorps is recruiting AmeriCorps members to assist with recruitment, outreach, and engagement in Mission Services to help individuals gain employment. Members will log data in the case management system, recruit volunteers for VITA, and participate in multiple training programs to gain skills and knowledge.

As an AmeriCorps Tax Professional, you will provide free tax return preparation, certify in tax law training, review and assist with tax returns, and support the Site

Responsibilities

• Assist with recruitment and outreach to increase client engagement in Mission Services.
• Log data into the assigned case management system.
• Recruit volunteers for GoodwillSR programs such as the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).
• Complete and certify in tax law training to provide free tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers.
• Prepare tax returns after intake/interview; review returns for accuracy.
• Assist clients and volunteers with questions and with tax return questions and resolution as needed.
• Provide timely updates to the Site Coordinator and promote additional Goodwill services.

GoodwillSR AmeriCorps members will assist with recruitment and outreach to our target audience to increase client engagement in Mission Services offerings to help individuals achieve gainful employment. AmeriCorps members may use several methods to reach clients: outreach calls, texts, social media, and other channels. AmeriCorps members will log all data into the assigned case management system. AmeriCorps members will recruit volunteers for GoodwillSR programs such as the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program. AmeriCorps members will participate in multiple training programs to gain skills and knowledge.

As an AmeriCorps Tax Professional, you'll serve clients with diverse tax needs with the support of an expert team dedicated to providing you with the advanced tax training you'll need to be successful. Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Complete and successfully certify in tax law training, including the use of electronic filing software, to provide free tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers.
• Prepare tax returns after being cleared by the intake & Interview station
• Review tax returns completed by fellow seasonal tax professionals and volunteer tax preparers, ensuring that every taxpayer receives top quality service and that the tax returns are error-free.
• Assist volunteers and clients with questions accurately and in a timely fashion.
• Assist Site Coordinator with prompt transmittal of tax returns in accordance with IRS guidelines and Goodwill best practices.
• Assist Site Coordinator with timely resolution of rejected tax returns by contacting clients by phone, meeting with them when they return, explaining the reason for the rejection, and patiently working with them to resolve and resubmit the return.
• Inform clients about additional financial services offered by Goodwill and in the community.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested by immediate supervisor or GoodwillSR leadership.

Schedule:

Monday – Friday (8:30 – 5:00) with Holidays and time off allowed; must complete 1700 hours in 11 months

The members will implement several outreach service methods, including phone calls, emails, text messaging, social media campaigns, geo‑marketing/geo‑tracking, and special events. Outreach includes, but is not limited to, re‑engaging clients who have not visited the center for 31 days or more; inviting clients to job fairs and special events; and informing clients about services such as classes, free tax prep, Veterans Services, certification training, etc. Outreach to our rural population uses the methods mentioned above to promote virtual services and opportunities offered by GoodwillSR. Outreach by the screen and a federal background check
