AmeriCorps DC site Lead is seeking dedicated individuals to guide After-School All-Stars activities in Washington DC, fostering academic recovery and socio-emotional growth for students after school.

You'll mentor youth, coordinate tutoring and mentoring with the Site Coordinator, recruit volunteers, and help collect attendance data for program evaluation, with occasional weekend service.

Qualifications

18+ years old and eligible for AmeriCorps service.
Full-time AmeriCorps program site lead in Washington, DC.
Experience in youth development and community programs a plus.

Responsibilities

Engage students in learning and foster connections to school and community.
Facilitate after-school programming 3 PM–6 PM focused on academic recovery and socio-emotional growth.
Mentor students under coordination of Site Coordinator; support online tutoring and activities.
Recruit and leverage 1–3 volunteers/community partners for service projects.
Assist with data collection (attendance and surveys) for program evaluation.
Occasionally participate in weekend service projects.

After-School All-Stars (ASAS) mission is to offer comprehensive afterschool programming that keeps children safe and helps them succeed in school and life. We want our All-Stars to grow up safely and in good health, graduate from high school and go on to college, find careers they love, and give back to their communities. The components of ASAS program are: 1. Academic Readiness: this program component addresses achievement in the classroom in addition to helping students develop positive work/study habits and acquire the ability to ask for help when needed. 2. STEM/STEAM Programming: exposes students to STEM experiences to address the disparities between advantaged students and students from low-income backgrounds in access and exposure to STEM fields, to inspire students to pursue careers in science and technology. 3. Career Exploration Experiences: this component solidifies connections between students’ academic work, their passions, and possible career paths through field trips to colleges and work sites. We expose students to professionals in varied fields and help them understand that professional/workplace skills are just as important as the more tangible hard skills and academic knowledge. 4. Health & Wellness: ASAS provides students with regular access to structured physical activity and nutrition education to help them establish lifelong healthy habits. 5. Visual & Performing Arts: this component plays a vital role in helping our youth express themselves, gain confidence, and build empathy. Art serves as an outlet for emotion, helping students process both positive and negative events in their lives. ASAS also teaches students how to use creative expression through art to present their thoughts and feelings to others. ASAS programming is infused with mentoring practices and socio-emotional learning to help students develop leadership skills, positive relationships with peers and adults, and reach their full potential.

Member Duties

AmeriCorps members will engage students in learning and fostering connections to their schools, their communities, and one another.
They will help facilitate daily after-school programming between 3 PM and 6 PM focused on academic recovery and socio-emotional growth.
The members will implement mentoring programming under the guidance of the Mentor Coordinator, and will collaborate with the Site Coordinator in the facilitation of online tutoring for students or other academic-based activities.
The AmeriCorps members will recruit and leverage an additional 1-3 volunteers and/or community partners to support students and programming for service projects.
In addition, the AmeriCorps members will assist with the collection of data (daily attendance and students' surveys) to support the chapter’s program evaluation activities.
Finally, occasionally, AmeriCorps participation will be required for service projects that will take place over the weekend.
