Job summary

NorthWoods Stewardship Center in East Charleston, Vermont, invites applications for an Environmental Education and Outdoor Recreation Instructor (AmeriCorps). The three-quarter-time position supports rural communities through education programs, volunteer engagement, and conservation outreach, with service at multiple locations and supervision by the Education Director.

Qualifications

• Be at least 17 years old at start of service or 16 in qualifying program.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent or obtain before education award use.
• Be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
• Satisfy National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria.

Responsibilities

• Assist Education staff in developing environmental education and outdoor recreation programming with local schools during and after school hours.
• Promote and facilitate summer camps and adult outreach programs.
• Lead or participate in cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing and other outdoor activities.
• Take part in stewardship projects such as tree planting and habitat restoration.
• Provide education-office support for programming activities.
• Assist in care of wildlife ambassador animals.
• Serve northern communities through education, outreach, and conservation service.
• Engage local youth and communities in conservation skills training for NorthWoods Conservation Corps members/leaders.
• Collaborate with partners to identify and complete priority conservation projects and expand education opportunities.
• Submit biweekly timesheets and complete enrollment/exit requirements.
