Job summary

Literacy Mid-South, through LiteracyCorps, seeks AmeriCorps members to tutor elementary students at UniverCity Family CDC in Memphis. The position runs Tue-Fri afternoons with a 7–9 hour weekly commitment, serving up to 55 students during the 26–27 programming year.

Tutors use Powered by Reading Partners resources and RPConnects tools to build literacy skills. Members receive AmeriCorps benefits, including a living allowance, education award, and ongoing coaching, while supporting literacy

Qualifications

Be at least 18 years old.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Meet AmeriCorps eligibility requirements.
Complete required background checks, orientation, and training before independent service.
Be available for the established Tuesday–Friday afternoon schedule.
Be able to complete 300 required service hours during the service term.

Responsibilities

Provide consistent one-on-one or small-group reading tutoring to assigned students.
Use approved tutoring materials, lesson plans, assessments, and literacy activities.
Support phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, reading confidence, and engagement.
Prepare tutoring materials and maintain an organized service space.
Accurately track tutoring sessions, attendance, service hours, and required student records.
Communicate with Literacy Mid-South staff regarding student progress and site needs.
Maintain a safe, welcoming, literacy-rich environment.
Follow program and AmeriCorps requirements.
