The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking an AmeriCorps Kentucky College Coach to assist high school students with selecting, applying to, and being accepted to a college or career of their choice. You will host school-wide activities and mentor core students from grades 9–12 under a site supervisor.

The role runs Sept 1, 2026 to June 31, 2027 (10 months). The living allowance is $1,810 per month, with benefits including healthcare assistance, a $5,176.50 education award per term,

AmeriCorps Kentucky College Coach

About the Role:

Kentucky College Coaches are AmeriCorps State and National membersthat assist high school students with selecting, applying to, andbeing accepted to a college or career of their choice. Thisinvolves hosting school-wide activities and mentoring core studentsfrom each grade level (9th-12th grade), as designated by themember’s site supervisor.

These priority core students will be students who: 1) will likelyget through high school, but who are unlikely to go to college 2)would be first-generation college attendees and/or 3) are fromlow-income families.

Duration:

September 1, 2026 – June 31, 2027 (10months)*

Living Allowance/Pay:

$ 1,81 0 per month in livingallowance, less FICA and other applicable taxes

Efforts to reach both the whole-school population and the prioritystudents should be measurable in terms of the following:

  • Number of priority students assigned to a Kentucky CollegeCoach who persist in the program throughout the school year
  • Number of students graduating from high school
  • Number of students entering post-secondary institutions
  • Number of students that are career ready
The Kentucky College Coach should work to help the school attainthe following benchmarks:
  • Number of students reaching college readiness benchmarks inmath and reading as measured by the 11 th grade ACT
  • Number of students applying to colleg e
  • Number of students filing the FAFSA
  • Number of students moving from high school and accessingremedial courses during the first year of college
Methods the Kentucky College Coach will employ in mentoring caninclude any of the following (as deemed appropriate by the schoolsite supervisor):
  • Helping students in career planning
  • Helping students with time and organizational skills
  • Recruiting volunteers within the community to assist withcareer awareness
  • Assisting with classroom instruction by embedding collegeplanning materials among core content
  • Assisting teachers and school counselors to develop effectivetutoring plans for students who need academic assistance andlinking students to volunteers in the community and at localcolleges for tutoring
  • Mentoring students about high school course selection andplacement testing scores which can lead to successful collegeadmission
  • Helping students develop financial literacy skills
  • Incorporating college-bound curriculum within the siteschool
  • Assisting with family nights, as related to collegeadmission
  • Other types of mentoring based on the needs of students and thedirection of school staff and policy.
