Iowa Legal Aid provides free, high quality legal education, advice and representation to low-income and elderly Iowans with civil legal problems that most dramatically affect them. Iowa Legal Aid seeks applicants for AmeriCorps Justice Intern positions for its regional offices in Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Mason City, Ottumwa, Sioux City and Waterloo, subject to funding availability.
AmeriCorps Justice Interns get the opportunity to work on projects from a broad range of legal areas, including ensuring housing stability, helping victims of domestic and sexual abuse secure safety and independence, protecting consumers from scams and identity theft, and safeguarding access to basic income, food, disability, and health benefits.
We seek applicants who have completed at least their first year of law school by the time their internship begins; communicate well with individuals and groups, both orally and in writing; are committed to helping make equal access to justice a reality for all Iowans. In compliance with federal law, interns will be required to verify identity and status as a US citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident, and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon enrollment.
