Job summary

Conservation Legacy in Colorado is seeking an AmeriCorps Interpretation Assistant to support the National Park Service at Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve. You will assist with education, events, and interpretation programs under NPS mentorship and SCC guidance.

The role emphasizes visitor engagement, park outreach, and coordination of Junior Ranger activities within a dynamic desert/mountain environment.

Qualifications

• US citizen, national, or permanent resident.
• At least 17 years of age.
• HS diploma or equivalent; or working toward diploma before using education award.
• Willing to provide information for eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
• Valid U.S. Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Assist with special event planning and community outreach.
• Assist with park data collection.
• Provide education to visitors of the park.
• Implement the Junior Ranger Program.
• Participate in informal and formal interpretation at various park destinations.
• Informal interpretive opportunities in busy park areas to engage visitors.
• Participate in preventative search and rescue operations by informing visitors of heat hazards, dehydration and sun exposure.
• Navigate uneven terrain and varying weather conditions.
