Job summary

Hoke County Schools in Raeford, North Carolina seeks an IEA Mentor (Indian Education Act Mentor) to provide targeted mentoring, advocacy, and academic support for American Indian students, aiming to improve attendance, performance, and post-secondary transitions.

Part-time (approximately 20 hours per week), non-exempt, with salary $15.00–$17.00 per hour. Reports to Assistant Superintendent of Operations and Information Systems.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred in Education, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
• Experience working with students in educational, mentoring, or community-based settings.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with students, families, and staff.
• Knowledge of or experience working with American Indian communities preferred.
• Ability to organize, monitor, and support student data related to attendance and academic progress.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the IEA Parent Liaison to identify students who may benefit from the services and support provided through this position.
• Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress, academic needs, and available support services.
• Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date records of student and parent interactions, communications, and services provided.
• Serve as a positive role model and advocate for American Indian students; build strong, supportive relationships.
