Job Summary:
Manages the delivery of nursing services and safe patient care within the assigned department and across the continuum of care. Ensures services are added value, integrated with nursing standards, service priorities, performance/outcome measures, and align with strategic, business, and organizational goals.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversees 24-hour delivery of nursing services and patient care, meeting or exceeding cost, quality, clinical, and utilization standards.
- Establishes and maintains patient care standards to meet member and internal expectations in a competitive healthcare market, ensuring staff accountability and compliance with all relevant laws and standards.
- Collaborates with Nursing Leadership to develop strategic and business plans for integrated services, and manages continuous improvement of clinical practices and operations.
- Develops and monitors departmental budgets, ensuring optimal use of resources.
- Monitors financial performance, identifying strategies to reduce costs and enhance quality.
- Determines staffing needs, oversees hiring, training, and ongoing staff development.
- Implements departmental policies and procedures aligned with organizational goals, including standards of care, fiscal management, and quality improvement.
- Addresses human resource and risk management issues proactively.
- Promotes a culture of safety, ensuring safety standards are consistently applied and compliant with all regulations.
- Participates in leadership committees at various levels, including medical center, regional, and national forums.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant clinical nursing experience, including at least three (3) years in management or leadership roles.
Education:
- Academic degree in nursing (Bachelors or Master's) required.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- BSN and National Certification in Nursing Administration or MSN required for PICU and NICU departments for CCS-certified facilities or those seeking certification.
License, Certification, Registration:
- Registered Nurse License (California).
- Basic Life Support certification.
Additional Requirements:
- Leadership experience permissible only for internal Kaiser Permanente applicants, demonstrated through clinical leadership, committee participation, certifications, or leadership development programs.
- Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, TJC, and relevant regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and management skills.
