Job Summary

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse registered in Massachusetts responsible for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care as set forth in the Nursing Department's Clinical Practice Manual. The nurse demonstrates initiative, knowledge, and clinical skills in caring for patients with complex needs. They are responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, reporting to a nurse manager or supervisor.

Essential Functions
  1. Clinical Practice
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for specific assignments.
  • Set priorities and organize care based on patient acuity.
  • Maintain clear communication.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of adult and geriatric development, applicable to areas like NICU and Obstetrics.
  • Quality of Care
    • Document care clearly and in compliance with standards.
    • Develop comprehensive care and educational plans based on assessments and team input.
    • Evaluate and revise plans to meet goals.
    • Participate in quality management programs.
    • Provide a safe environment and administer medications safely.
  • Coordination/Collaboration
    • Interact professionally with patients, families, and colleagues.
    • Collaborate with other disciplines and participate in committees.
  • Education
    • Engage in personal and professional growth.
    • Share knowledge and participate in educational programs.
  • Research
    • Utilize and support nursing research.
  • Budget
    • Use resources effectively and suggest cost-effective practices.
  • Personnel
    • Participate in orientation and evaluation of staff.
    • Fill in for leadership as needed.
    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Graduate of an approved nursing school with current Massachusetts registration. BSc in Nursing required.

    Experience:

    • At least 2 years of recent clinical experience in ambulatory care, excluding ER or procedural settings.
    • Experience with telephone triage and adult clinical assessment required.
    • At least 2 years of recent pulmonary/thoracic patient care experience as an RN required.
    • Case management and team-based care experience preferred.
    Skills and Abilities

    Strong interpersonal, clinical judgment, and communication skills; ability to work independently and under stress; capable of handling multiple projects and sensitive issues tactfully.

    Working Conditions

    Busy, potentially stressful environment; exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials; requires flexibility and independence.

    Hospital-Wide Responsibilities

    Adhere to legal, ethical, and safety standards; follow policies and procedures; report non-compliance; participate in training.
