Job summary

The County of Santa Clara is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to support ambulatory care under clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician. The role involves preparing patients, taking vital signs, assisting with examinations, and coordinating tests and procedures.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; one year of outpatient medical assisting experience preferred.
Completion of an accredited training program may substitute for the experience.
Certification as a Medical Assistant meets California requirements.

Responsibilities

Prepare patients for examinations: drape, obtain vital signs, verify referrals, take history.
Maintain examination rooms and nurses' station: stock supplies, transport specimens, update trays.
Instruct patients on procedures, tests, hygiene, diet; provide educational materials.
Process charge sheets and manage medical records; ensure records are updated.
Assist with office procedures: monitor patient flow, screen calls, order supplies.
Support providers with routine and specialized procedures, meds, and tests.
Perform procedures as instructed; schedule tests and x-rays; obtain and relay reports.
Attend professional development to maintain standards and knowledge.
