Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare is seeking a Medical Assistant for an ambulatory office setting. You will work with physicians and caregivers to deliver appropriate treatment and interventions, supporting patient care throughout visits.

You will assist in onboarding nursing staff, explain treatment plans to patients and families, and maintain accurate EMR documentation while ensuring medication and supply storage meets policy requirements.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Current BLS certification; BLS from American Heart Association preferred.
• Certification for Medical Assisting required – NCCT, AAMA, NHA or NAHP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with physicians and caregivers to deliver appropriate treatment in ambulatory office setting.
• Demonstrate critical thinking to address patient care needs based on available information.
• Ensure quality communication among care team, outside agencies, patients and families.
• Assist onboarding and ongoing education of nursing staff within the department.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, options and resources for care needs.
• Document accurately in the EMR following departmental policies and procedures.
• Room patients and record required and updated medical information in the EMR.
• Monitor expiration dates and storage conditions of medications and supplies.
