Job summary

Priority Patient Transport seeks an Ambulance and NEMT Billing Coding Specialist to support the revenue cycle for emergency and nonemergency medical transportation. You will review documents, verify patient/payor details, and move trips from intake to claim submission and follow-up.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and collaborates with billing leadership, QA/QI, dispatchers, and field staff to ensure accurate claims and timely reimbursements.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of EMS/ambulance/NEMT or related revenue-cycle experience is preferred.
• Ability to read transport records and verify demographics, eligibility, and payer details.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payer workflows is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Review ambulance and NEMT transport records for completeness, accuracy, medical-necessity support, and consistency across records and billing systems.
• Verify patient demographics, insurance eligibility, payer order, transport type, service level, origin and destination, mileage, and authorization numbers.
• Prepare and code claims according to procedures and payer requirements, including various workflows.
• Ensure required documents are present and attached, such as facesheets, signatures, logs, and authorizations.
• Identify missing or conflicting documentation and request corrections from the appropriate party.
• Review ePCRs for consistency in personnel, signatures, times, mileage, and billing indicators.
• Enter or import transports into the billing platform, update claim statuses, and submit claims via approved channels.
• Track rejected/denied/suspended claims; research causes and route accordingly; communicate barriers.
• Perform provider/signer checks and maintain logs to identify trends affecting clean claims and reimbursement.
• Provide documentation feedback and assist with staff training when requested.
• Protect patient and company information per HIPAA and privacy requirements.
