Job summary

Physical Requirements

This position requires intermittently sitting at a computer workstation and performing tasks with repetitive motions (such as typing); occasionally standing or walking with objects weighing up to 25 pounds; and lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Also involves risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job; working in confined spaces; and exposure to blood-borne or airborne pathogens, hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, and cuts/punctures.

Shift

Day shift; varies 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Hours and days of the week are subject to change based on needs and growth of department.

Job Summary

This position will help establish and lead the delivery of a new pharmacist-led academic detailing program across UK HealthCare, providing individualized, evidence-based education and clinical outreach to healthcare providers to promote appropriate medication use, support guideline implementation, improve medication safety and patient outcomes, and advance cost-effective prescribing practices. This position will serve as a clinical liaison between UK Specialty Pharmacy and Infusion Services and healthcare providers, establishing collaborative relationships, assessing provider-specific educational needs and prescribing practices, and translating clinical evidence, formulary information, and medication-use data into actionable recommendations. This position will support prescribing optimization and the integration of evidence-based practices into clinical workflows. The pharmacist will also develop educational materials, track and evaluate program outcomes, and use provider feedback and prescribing data to refine academic detailing strategies and identify opportunities for quality improvement. This position will also support pharmacy education, training, competency initiatives, accreditation readiness, continuing education, experiential education, and the development of educational resources for UKSPIS staff, students, residents, and other healthcare professionals. This position will expand the reach of UKSPIS clinical expertise, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, and support the delivery of high-quality, safe, and cost-effective patient care across the health system.

Strong clinical skills; knowledge of inpatient drug distribution and dispensing; ability to prioritize; excellent communication skills; a “team” mentality; desire to teach; and motivation are required to excel in this position.
