The Medication Technician is responsible for the safe administration of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the Health Services Director and in accordance with established nursing standards, policies, procedures, and state requirements. Responsible for maintaining accurate medication records and reporting any changes in residents' status related to medications. Reports to: Health Services Director or Journey Program Director.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate medication services with residents, pharmacy, and physicians, including verifying medications and dosages prior to dispensing.
  2. Order and track medications, and report changes to the appropriate supervisor.
  3. Maintain accurate and complete resident medication and care records, including MARs and resident files.
  4. Assist with inventory management and supply ordering.
  5. Act as a point of contact for physicians, families, and vendors in the absence of supervisors.
  6. Assist with scheduling and coverage as directed.
  7. Update relevant logs and documentation regularly.
  8. Assist residents with medications and treatments within scope and policy.
  9. Observe and document medication administration, including refusals, and report issues.
  10. Maintain cleanliness and security of medication areas.
  11. Support other staff as needed, including participating in narcotic counts and preparing medications.
  12. Carry communication devices as directed.
  13. Follow infection control procedures and maintain licensure/certifications.
  14. Report occupational exposures and participate in safety protocols.
  15. Support community marketing efforts and promote a safe environment.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of the Company’s Medication Administration Course with a passing score and all state-required training.
  • Minimum of one year experience passing medications, preferably with elderly clients.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Use of standard office equipment and communication devices.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, understand safety procedures, and demonstrate compassion and professionalism.
  • Good physical health and mobility.
  • Must pass criminal background check, possess current first aid training, and be at least 18 years old.
