Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC seeks an AM Design Engineer to embed with design teams, applying LPBF-focused design for manufacturability. You will develop optimized geometries using 3DXpert and NX, support prototyping, fixtures, and tooling, and refine test geometries with AM Materials and Process teams to accelerate development.

You’ll train junior designers, document lessons, and drive cross‑functional collaboration to deliver manufacturable, cost‑effective designs that balance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 1–3 years of professional design engineering experience; LPBF AM exposure preferred.
• Proficiency with Siemens NX (preferred) or similar 3D CAD software required.
• Familiarity with AM software such as 3DXpert, nTop, or Materialise preferred.
• Solid understanding of DfAM principles, especially for LPBF.
• Working knowledge of 3D GD&T and downstream processes (Machining, Welding, Assembly).

Responsibilities

• Apply DfAM rules to create optimized LPBF parts.
• Collaborate with design teams on orientation, supports, and manufacturability reviews.
• Develop and iterate test geometries with AM Materials and Process teams.
• Support rapid prototyping using in-house and external AM equipment (FDM).
• Assist in training junior designers on AM design practices.
• Document lessons learned and contribute to AM design standards.
• Collaborate with downstream manufacturing stakeholders to enable feasible plans.
• Serve as a technical resource for cross-functional teams adopting AM."
