Overview

Cape Eleuthera Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1997 to support transformational educational experiences with the mission of leadership effecting change on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The Foundation’s Philadelphia-based (and remote) team raises funds to help young people realize their potential, explore academics outside of traditional classroom walls, gain perspective on cultures different from their own, and make a positive impact on their world. The Foundation is the main grantor of The Island School, which delivers unique educational journeys through the High School Semester and Summer Term programs, the Deep Creek Middle School, the Elementary Learning Center, and Community Engagement and Partnerships in conjunction with research and sustainable development work done at the Cape Eleuthera Institute, our research and innovation hub. We are reimagining what education is for, and redesigning how education is delivered.

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate, creative, and entrepreneurial professional to join our team as Alumni Engagement and Giving Manager. Reporting to the Assistant Director, this role will serve as the primary contact for all Island School program alumni and will work closely with the Advancement, Communications and Admissions teams to develop and implement comprehensive alumni engagement strategies; oversee all alumni communications; develop strategies to grow alumni participation and philanthropic support; and plan and execute alumni events. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic relationship builder, able to inspire volunteers, foster meaningful connections, and engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Alumni Engagement
    • Develop a comprehensive strategic and engagement plan for all program alumni, including Semester and Summer Term and Deep Creek Middle School
    • Partner with Island School program leaders to develop complementary engagement strategies for faculty and staff alumni and visiting program alumni
    • Lead the implementation and ongoing management of the inaugural Alumni Council, including recruitment, quarterly meetings, and volunteer engagement
    • Serve as primary administrator of the alumni platform, Almabase, to support and engage with the entire alumni network
    • Develop methods to track alumni engagement, participation, and volunteer activity using Salesforce and Almabase, regularly analyzing data to inform strategic decision-making
    • Manage and grow the Alumni Ambassador program in partnership with Semester and Summer Term Admissions team
    • Represent The Island School in various on-stage, virtual, small group, and one-on-one interactions
  • Alumni Communications
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive communications channels for program alumni with input from the Communications team
    • Write and send monthly alumni-focused newsletters and develop and oversee other regular communications strategies (e.g., class notes, texting outreach)
    • Develop editorial content and story ideas for all communications and regularly identify stories and content from alumni
    • Contribute social media content to the Communications team to keep alumni informed and engaged
    • Manage the alumni@islandschool.org inbox, respond to emails and phone calls from alumni, and update records in Salesforce as needed
  • Annual Giving and Development Support
    • Manage assigned portfolio (approximately 25 individuals) and develop, implement, and drive cultivation and solicitation strategies to secure annual fund gifts up to $5,000
      • Complete 5-10 meetings per year with alumni donors (by phone or Zoom)
      • Make face-to-face solicitations as appropriate
      • Involve additional staff or volunteers as needed
      • Work with the Assistant Director to cultivate new alumni donors, retain existing donors, including alumni, and inspire them to move up the pipeline to major gifts
    • Partner with the Assistant Director to plan and execute the annual CONCHtribution alumni campaign and assist with gift entry
    • Support Giving Day, annual fund, and other fundraising events through volunteer coordination, communications, and donor outreach as needed
    • Oversee prospect research as needed and maintain donor records in Salesforce
    • Develop stewardship strategies and oversee acknowledgment and recognition efforts for alumni donors
    • Attend quarterly Development and Alumni Committee meetings and report on alumni engagement
  • Event Coordination
    • Create, manage, and schedule an annual alumni events calendar, including in-person and virtual events such as the Alumni Summit speaker series and annual alumni award, and develop other meaningful, mission-aligned programming such as reunions
    • Support annual fundraising events as needed (receptions, small group dinners, celebrations)
    • General support and coordination, if necessary, for on-island and other stateside events throughout the year (Family Weekend, Conferences, Board Meetings, Reunions, Educators Conference, etc.)

  • Experience with Salesforce or a similar constituent relationship management (CRM) database is preferred
  • A valid passport and the ability to travel frequently throughout the United States and occasionally to The Bahamas
  • Preference will be given to candidates based in Philadelphia or Boston
