Jewish Family Service of Colorado seeks a Part-Time Altius Farm Operations Member to assist in greenhouse operations, including cleaning, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, packaging, and labeling of organic produce. Salary: $22.00 per hour

This is a Part-Time position, 16-24 hours per week including one weekend day.

Position Summary

The Altius Farm Operations Member will assist on the farm to ensure high-quality product is available to our customers. This position involves the main aspects of the greenhouse or garden farm including cleaning, harvesting, seeding, and transplanting using organic farming methods. This role may include weighing, packaging, and labeling of products.

Essential Functions*

• Responsible for greenhouse cleaning (use of shop vacuums, pressure washers, brooms, mops, and cleaning rags).
• Responsible for cleaning with bleach, vinegar, food-grade sanitizers, and Isopropyl alcohol daily.
• Supports the Farm Manager, temporary or contract workers, and volunteers.
• Participates in seeding and transplanting.
• Harvests plants indoors and outdoors with scissors and packages produce.
• Trims plants with scissors indoors and outdoors.
• Responsible for trash and recycling disposal.
• Maintains food safety in compliance with farm guidelines.
• Engages in pest management and harvesting as needed.
• Wears appropriate PPE (rain covering, boots) for some duties as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

Preferred one to three years of experience in a restaurant or farming operation.

Preferred experience in outdoor and/or indoor farming operations.

Preferred experience in food safety and cleanliness.

Other

Passion for sustainable farming and food production.

Ability to work independently but part of a team.

Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Strong organizational skills.

Ability to provide good client and customer service.

This job requires being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a cooperative attitude while being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.

Attention to detail when following standard operating procedures and data entry into spreadsheets.

Essential to this role is dependability and reliability. This is a small team and work schedule consistency is critical.

A valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance are required.

Employees must maintain a driving record that meets agency insurance requirements and be able to travel to multiple sites or community locations as part of regular job duties.

Mileage reimbursement is provided in accordance with agency policy.

Work Environment

Outdoors Position

Work is primarily performed at JFS Altius Farms at 2500 Lawrence St, Denver, CO 80205. This position requires working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat and cold. Work hours are generally during regular farm hours with work on weekends as needed.

Physical requirements

Frequently using hands to control or feel objects or tools; frequently able to climb and stand on step stools and small ladders for extended periods of time; visual acuity to be able to work with seeds, seedlings, and other small items. Long periods of standing are required.

Physical effort/lifting

The employee will frequently be required to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift 50 pounds or more.
