Job summary

Neiman Marcus in New York is seeking a skilled Tailor to perform alterations and restyling of luxury apparel. You will assist fitters by ensuring target fit, fabric behavior, and construction quality meet the retailer's standards.

The role requires experience in tailoring or industrial sewing, ability to read and follow instructions, and competence with basic arithmetic for measurements. You will contribute to a premium customer experience through expert craftsmanship.

Qualifications

• Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment.
• Ability to read English and understand instruction from supervisor.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic for measurements and alterations.

Responsibilities

• Alter constructed garments to quality standards.
• Alter seams, shoulders, sleeves to fit specifications.
• Rotate sleeves and adjust lengths.
• Shorten backs, collars, or entire coats as needed.
• Re-line or modify pockets as required.
• Operate and maintain sewing equipment.
• Self-inspect completed work for quality.
• Complete assigned alterations under supervision.
• Interpret written and oral instructions.
• Complete tasks assigned by manager or lead.

YOU WILL BE:

As a Tailor, you will be conducting alterations, resizing and restyling of all merchandise retailed in Neiman Marcus stores. You will assist fitters in achieving their goals with professional assistance with fit, alterability, and structural quality of apparel merchandise.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Alter constructed garments to meet the standard of quality set by Neiman Marcus equal or better than original construction
• Alter seams vented or unvented, take in shoulder blades, reduce chest, narrow shoulders
• Rotate sleeves, shorten sleeves
• Shorten back, shorten collar, and square shoulders
• Shorten coat, re-line coat, or remake inside or outside pockets
• Operate and maintain all sewing equipment
• Self-inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met
• Complete alterations assigned tasks, as assigned by Supervisor/Lead
• Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form
• Complete tasks assigned by Manager, Supervisor, or Lead

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

• Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment, with exposure to a variety of garment styles and types of fabrics, is preferred
• Ability to read English and understand instruction by Manager, Supervisor, or Lead
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
