You will administer emergency medical, basic, and advanced life support services in a 911 setting to members and visitors of Hampton under the direction of our Operational Medical Doctor.

Examples of work may include:

  • Responding to emergency situations, providing advanced pre-hospital emergency medical services, transporting patients, and maintaining logs and reports.
  • Serving as a member of a medical crew, directing others, and communicating patient information to medical facilities.
  • Performing basic and advanced life support with equipment such as EKG monitors, defibrillators, intubation tools, and medications under physician instructions.
  • Consulting with physicians via telemetry radio for diagnosis and exercising independent judgment when needed.
  • Administering medications, maintaining inventory, cleaning and sanitizing equipment, and ensuring vehicle readiness.
  • Assisting in hospital patient care, completing paperwork, and maintaining emergency medical equipment and vehicles.
  • Operating emergency ambulances, coordinating with other public safety agencies, and working in hazardous environments.
  • Training fire division personnel in life support and emergency procedures, serving as a preceptor.

* Demonstrates punctuality and regular attendance.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, specialized EMS training, valid EMT-Paramedic or EMT-Intermediate certification from Virginia or the National Registry, and current certifications in BLS/CPR, ACLS, and PALS or PEPP. Additional requirements include completing the Emergency Vehicle Operator’s course, NIMS courses, a background check, physical exam, and possessing a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Duties may involve various shifts, including long hours or unusual schedules, especially during emergencies. This is a non-exempt position.
