The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is seeking an ALMA2040 Project Director to lead all phases of the NA ALMA2040 with strong scientific leadership. The position will be based at NRAO Headquarters on the University of Virginia Grounds in Charlottesville, VA.

The appointee may be tenured or tenure-track, spending 50% of time on ALMA2040 responsibilities and 50% on independent research, collaborating with NRAO, AUI, and NSF management.

Qualifications

• PhD in astronomy, astrophysics or closely related field.
• 8+ years leading complex scientific or technical projects; 15+ preferred.
• National and international recognition as a scientific leader.
• Proven project completion record; knowledge of ALMA and the astronomy community.

Responsabilités

• Provide leadership to the ALMA2040 project under the NA ALMA Director.
• Develop, organize, and lead NRAO/NA activities related to ALMA2040.
• Develop, organize, and lead community activities related to ALMA2040.
• Lead the Decadal process (white papers development and related activities).
• Engage with international partners to pursue a unified ALMA2040 vision.
• Work with funding agencies to support the ALMA2040 project.
• Provide regular information and status reports to internal and external stakeholders.
