Job summary

BridgeValley Community and Technical College is seeking a 9-month, full-time Allied Health faculty member to deliver foundational and program-specific courses, including phlebotomy and EKG, in South Charleston, West Virginia.

The instructor will teach 15 credit hours per semester, advise students, participate in curriculum development, and contribute to accreditation and program initiatives while maintaining strong ties with clinical partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field from an accredited institution.

Description

This 9-month full-time faculty position supports the Allied Health program at BridgeValley Community and Technical College, delivering high-quality instruction in foundational and program-specific courses designed to prepare students for entry-level healthcare roles. Course assignments may include medical terminology, pharmacology, community health, allied health skills, phlebotomy, EKG, and other courses depending on departmental needs.
The faculty member will teach 15 credit hours (15 contact hours) per semester, advise students, participate in curriculum development, and contribute to program and institutional initiatives. Salary offer will be commensurate with education and experience.

Examples of Duties

• Prepare for and deliver instruction in both traditional classroom and online/distance learning formats.
• Supervise laboratory, simulation, and skills-based instructional activities in Allied Health learning environments.
• Provide instruction in phlebotomy techniques, safety procedures, specimen handling, and regulatory standards.
• Maintain accurate and timely instructional records and documentation to support institutional effectiveness, accreditation reviews, and program approvals.
• Collaborate with clinical partners and assist with coordination or evaluation of clinical/field placements, including phlebotomy clinical experiences where applicable.
• Use inclusive teaching strategies that support diverse student populations and promote equitable student success.
• Remain current with best practices, standards, and emerging trends in the Allied Health and broader healthcare fields.
• Maintain regular availability to students for academic advising, mentoring, tutoring, and course support.
• Participate in department, division, and faculty meetings; attend professional development workshops and in-service training.
• Contribute to curriculum design, course review, and systematic assessment processes supporting BridgeValley’s continuous improvement model.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Qualifications

Minimum

• Bachelor’s degree in a health-related or allied health field from an accredited institution.
• Current national certification as a Phlebotomist (e.g., ASCP, NHA, AMT) is required or willingness to become nationally certified.
• Experience working and/or teaching in higher education, healthcare settings, or an Allied Health support role.
• Demonstrated communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Effective organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and external partners.
• Demonstrated ability or willingness to support outcomes-based education and institutional assessment processes.

Preferred

• Master’s degree or higher in a Health Sciences or Allied Health discipline.
• Additional professional licensure or certification relevant to an Allied Health field.
• Experience developing and evaluating student learning outcomes and assessment measures.
• Online teaching experience and proficiency in learning management systems.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
• Experience working in community college environments or with diverse student populations.
