Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking an Alliance Laboratory Testing Supervisor to support daily lab operations, oversee personnel, and maintain quality standards. The role includes training, competency maintenance, and coordination with HR on personnel actions.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a lab science, 4 years of lab testing experience, and leadership experience in a clinical setting. Location is Seattle, with lab hours M-F and weekend coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology, or equivalent education per 42CFR493.1489(b)(3).
• Certification as MLS/MT or equivalent with continuing education through ASCP/AMT/AAB.
• 4 years of laboratory testing experience with human samples.
• At least 1 year in a lead/senior tech/coordinator/supervisor role in a clinical lab.
• Knowledge of CLIA and CAP regulations.
• Direct or indirect leadership of lab projects (new test validation, process improvement, etc.).
• Excellent written and oral communication; proficient with MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Support the Alliance Lab quality improvement and quality assurance program with the Lab Quality team.
• Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluations for the team.
• Coordinate proficiency testing as required by accrediting agencies.
• Contribute to policy and procedure development and revisions with the Testing Manager team.
• Ensure safety compliance with institutional, state, and federal standards.
• Oversee maintenance of instrumentation and inventories; advise on new instruments and supplies.

Supports the Testing Manager to manage the daily operations of Alliance Lab Testing Servies at assigned lab(s)/locations(s). Testing may include hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and coagulation.

• Oversee personnel including training, engagement, development, onboarding and offboarding. Work in conjunction with HR on required personnel action.
• Team member is required to maintain competency on instruments/equipment and provide bench coverage when needed due to PTO, sick calls, short staffing, etc.

1.0 FTE Exempt - Variable based on lab operations needs; Lab hours are M-F 0530 to 2230 and Sat-Sun/Holidays 0600-1830

This position is located at the Fred Hutch South Lake Union campus at 825 Eastlake Ave E., Seattle, WA 98109.

Responsibilities

• Support the Alliance Lab quality improvement/quality assurance program in coordination with the Lab Quality team and the Alliance Lab Technical & Compliance team. Ensure consistent monitoring and documentation of quality indicators to identify areas for improvement and report to the Laboratory QI/Integrity Committee.
• Participate in recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluations on the team where assigned. Support ongoing documentation of continued competency and continuing education for laboratory staff.
• Coordinate proficiency testing as required by lab accrediting agencies
• Participate in policy and procedure development, implementation, and revisions with the Testing Manager and the Alliance Lab Technical & Compliance team.
• Support ongoing compliance with safety rules and regulations in compliance with the institution, state, and federal standards.
• Manage the maintenance of instrumentation and inventories. Make recommendations for the selection of new laboratory instruments, related equipment, and supplies.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution or a bachelor's degree and equivalent education and training as defined in 42CFR493.1489(b)(3). Must meet the CLIA education requirements for a high complexity testing.
• Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, or an equivalent certification with certified maintenance of continuing education through ASCP, AMT, or AAB.
• 4 years of laboratory experience performing testing on human samples required.
• At least 1 year of previous experience in a lead/senior tech/coordinator/supervisor/manager role (must be verified by title) in a clinical lab with a total of 3 years of clinical lab experience performing high complexity testing in lieu of 4 total years may also be acceptable.
• Knowledge of CLIA and CAP regulations.
• Demonstrated direct or indirect leadership of lab projects (new test validation, process improvement, employee engagement, etc.).
• Excellent communication skills (written, oral).
• Proficient with MS Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment is a must.

Preferred:

• Master's Degree in lab science, healthcare administration, business, or related field. Meet the CLIA requirements for a general supervisor, technical consultant, and technical supervisor in hematology and/or chemistry.
• CAP Inspection Team Member Certification.
• Supervisory or lead experience.
• CAP Inspector - Team Member.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $99,487.00 to $157,227.00, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
