Job summary

Jobtailor in Boston, MA seeks a seasoned Registered Nurse for Allergy and Clinical Immunology ambulatory care. You will administer immunotherapy, perform pulmonary function tests, and educate families on all aspects of allergen management.

Must hold MA RN licensure with BSN, and bring pediatric and allergy experience, ambulatory setting familiarity, and flexible scheduling. Collaborative teamwork with physicians and staff is essential.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a nurse in Massachusetts.
• BSN required for newly licensed nurses.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for Allergy and Clinical Immunology patients.
• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document patient care.
• Administer allergen immunotherapy/desensitization, allergy testing, oral challenges, medications, and injections.
• Prepare, dilute, and mix allergen extracts.
• Perform vital signs, pulmonary function testing, and pre/post-bronchodilator spirometry.
• Educate patients and families on allergen environmental controls and inhaler/spacer use.
• Triage telephone calls and relay information to physicians.
• Contact patients regarding changes in management.
• Maintain perpetual inventory and dispense samples under physician direction.
• Follow office protocols and physician direction, including calling prescriptions to pharmacies.
• Participate in quality management, quality improvement, education, research, committees, and staff orientation.
• Maintain safe, clean, compliant patient-care and work environments.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, ancillary departments, patients, families, and colleagues.
• Report problems to supervisors and support efficient department and facility operations

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved school of nursing
• Current registration as a nurse in Massachusetts
• Newly licensed nurses must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
• Recent ambulatory outpatient office visit experience required, defined as within 5 years
• Recent pediatric experience required
• Recent Allergy experience required
• Recent procedural experience required
• Recent knowledge and experience with telephone triage required
• Knowledge and experience with allergen immunotherapy/desensitization, allergy testing, oral challenges, and allergen extract preparation, mixing, and dilution preferred
• Knowledge and experience with patient education on allergen environmental controls and inhaler/spacer use preferred
• Knowledge and experience performing pre/post-bronchodilator spirometry preferredKnowledge and experience with chemotherapeutic skin tests, venom mixing and testing, penicillin skin tests, aspirin desensitizations, McKesson medication ordering, and Allergy testing charges preferred
• Must have flexibility with schedule
• Must attend required staff meetings
• Must be reliable and dependable
