Job summary

State of Alaska's Alaska Marine Highway System seeks an Oiler to support the safe and efficient operation of vessel machinery along Alaska's coastal routes. You will assist with maintenance, repair, and daily operation of mechanical and electrical systems aboard, under the guidance of senior engineers, while standing watch and aiding with cargo and security tasks.

Qualifications

  • Valid USCG MMC endorsed with National Endorsements: Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) Oiler
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) (color copy)
  • Current DOT Drug Test (within the last 6 months)
  • Current USCG Medical Certificate (STCW 2yr date)

Responsibilities

  • Support the safe and efficient operation of vessel machinery by assisting with maintenance, repair, and daily operation of mechanical and electrical systems onboard
  • Stand watch, assist with cargo operations, support vessel security, and respond to emergencies as part of the Emergency Squad
  • Operate power and hand tools and troubleshoot equipment to keep systems running smoothly
  • Work under the direction of senior engineers in a fast-paced, hands-on shipboard environment
