Job summary

Ouzinkie is seeking a Boat Captain/Naturalist Guide to safely operate lodge vessels and lead water-based nature/wildlife excursions along the Katmai Coast. The role requires a 25 Ton Near Coastal OUPV license, CPR/First Aid cert, and willingness to undergo a drug/alcohol program while providing engaging interpretations of Park history, flora and fauna.

Responsibilities include navigation, safety briefings, and maintenance of equipment, with travel to Kodiak and remote lodge environments.

Qualifications

  • Must understand marine environment and weather/tide impacts.
  • Proficient with navigational tools and charts for vessel operation.
  • USCG 25 Ton Near Coastal OUPV license current.
  • CPR and First Aid certification current.
  • Subject to random drug and alcohol screening and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe operation of lodge vessels and guest welfare during water-based excursions.
  • Provide engaging, accurate narration of tours and environmental data.
  • Maintain vessel safety, cleanliness, and mechanical soundness.
  • Coordinate with guests for safety, logistics, and timely departures/returns.
  • Cross-sell Katmai Wilderness products and services.
  • Assist with camp duties (grounds, gear loading/unloading, maintenance).
  • Uphold professional appearance and adhere to lodge policies.
