The Federal Aviation Administration is seeking a NAV Technician-in-Depth or NAV COM Technician-in-Depth Airway Transportation Systems Specialist. This role requires expertise in aviation systems, including installation and maintenance of critical navigation and communication equipment, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System.
This is a NAV Technician-in-Depth (TID) or NAV COM Technician-in-Depth (TID) Airway Transportation Systems Specialist (ATSS). At this level, they are recognized as subject matter experts in their field. ATSS personnel install, evaluate, maintain, modify, and certify facilities, services, and equipment that support the National Airspace System (NAS).
To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility that shows extensive knowledge in technology system interrelationships and management of civilian or military automated aviation, navigation, and electronics systems. Experience at the next lower level (Pay Band H/Level III or equivalent) generally meets the minimum qualifications, provided the experience supports the demonstrated abilities listed below.

In addition to the demonstrated abilities, qualified applicants must demonstrate specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (FV-H or FG/GS-12). This experience should provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position successfully, and is typically in or directly related to the work of the position.
For both NAV and NAV COM: Experience with two or more of the following systems and services: Instrument Landing Sys (ILS) (including MARK 20/20A and MARK 1F with features like Capture Effect, Null Reference, Side Band Glide Slope), Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range (VOR) (Second Gen 9996, Third Gen 10391 Conventional/Doppler), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) (Second Gen 9996, Thales 415, ASII 1118, Selex), Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN), Antennas (RTA2, Low Power TACAN (LPTA)), Non-Directional Beacon (NDB) (Nautel, Southern Avionics).
For NAV COM: Experience with two or more of the following systems: Remote Center Air/Ground (RCAG); Backup Emergency Communications (BUEC); Remote Communications Outlet (RCO); Voice Recording System (VRS); Digital Audio Legal Recorder (DALR); Remote Transmitter/Receiver (RTR); Terminal Voice Switch (TVS)--Enhanced (E)TVS, Interim Voice Switch Replacement (IVSR), Radio Deployment Voice Switch (RDVS), Small Tower Voice Switch (STVS); Radio Control Equipment (RCE); Fiber Optic Transmission System (FOTS); NEXCOM.
