Job description

NATURE OF WORK:

Under the direction of the Airport Operations Manager, performs duties necessary to support Airport operations to ensure the proper maintenance of Airport grounds and terminal building. The employee in this class may also install posts, signage, and perform other miscellaneous tasks of a semi-skilled nature. In addition, operates light automotive equipment, fuels aircraft, and performs a variety of manual tasks in connection with the airfield and terminal building. The employee will be utilized when needed to assist the Airport Operations Manager in airfield operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ground maintenance to include: edging, fertilize, spray fence lines, trim trees, landscaping, and mulching
  • Operates landscape equipment (Batwing, zero-turn, side‑by‑side utility vehicle, edger, weed‑eater, etc.)
  • Use of hand tools (drills, saws, etc.)
  • Install signs and make fence repairs as needed (replacing posts)
  • Measures fuel tank levels and performs daily fuel tank maintenance activities.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning, greasing, and checking equipment and tools
  • Performs airfield and perimeter inspections and removes foreign objects from airfield as necessary
  • Cleans terminal building as needed and disposes of trash
  • Fuels aircraft (if certified to do so), or trains to fuel aircraft and becomes certified within six (6) months of hire
  • Other airfield duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Hold a NATA Line Fuel Service Certification or ability to obtain fueling certification within six (6) months of hire date
  • Good knowledge of common handyman tools
  • Mechanical ability
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of, and ability to utilize materials, methods and equipment used in lawn care and general maintenance work
  • Ability to carry out assignments with minimal instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors
  • Ability to work independently to carry out assignments to completion
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights up to 12 feet
  • Ability to work flexible hours necessary for the efficient operation of the department
  • Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
EDUCATION:
  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • Two (2) years of general work experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to walk, climb, maneuver around buildings and on uneven terrain
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration
  • The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderately noisy
