Summary

The King County International Airport (Boeing Field) is seeking an experienced Airport Maintenance Crew Chief to join the Airport Maintenance Section! This role will support the airport maintenance section on complex maintenance issues and help lead, advise, and oversee the day-to-day activities of permanent and seasonal personnel within the maintenance department.

ABOUT THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT: The Airport Maintenance Section is the biggest section at the airport. This section provides critical infrastructure support to the entire airport. This maintenance support includes a variety of assets, including our terminal, tenant hangars, aircraft tie-downs, landscaping, airfield and landside road maintenance, and construction support.

About King County International Airport (boeing Field)

KCIA is one of the busiest primary non-hub general aviation airports in the nation. Located just four miles south of downtown Seattle, it averages 180,000 aircraft operations each year. KCIA ranks among the most successful public investments in state history. The airport's annual economic impact is $3.5 billion - supporting more than 16,000 jobs and providing $1.8 billion in labor income in the county. KCIA promotes the health of the aviation industry by establishing pipelines for employment and for employee development.

As a general aviation airport, KCIA serves small, commercial passenger airlines, cargo carriers, including UPS, private aircraft owners, helicopters, corporate jets, and military and other aircraft. It is also the final delivery center for the Boeing Company's 737 aircraft and serves as the company's military flight center along with other Boeing operations. The Museum of Flight is located on the airport property with a wide variety of aircraft and exhibits showcasing aviation history. KCIA frequently is host to celebrities and dignitaries, who prefer Boeing Field because of its proximity to downtown Seattle and convenient connections to other business districts in the region. Due to its proximity to Lumen Field, T-Mobile Park, and other sports venues, many teams prefer to use KCIA when playing in Seattle.

Job Duties

SCOPE OF JOB DUTIES:

  • Monitor crew job time and prepare routine preventative maintenance (PM) plans.
  • Plan, organize, and lead maintenance crew work activities around the airport. Ensure that the required PPE, equipment, and materials are available before performing the work.
  • Provide monitoring, direction, and coaching of work performance.
  • Provide verbal and written instructions, guidance, and assistance to work crews.
  • Monitor and document employee performance and conduct in the field. Communicate performance recommendations to superiors when appropriate.
  • Ensure that work crews comply with environmental standards, codes, regulations, and specifications. Inspect runways, taxiways, public aprons, roads, utilities, terminal, and other facilities to detect unsafe or hazardous conditions; ensure that appropriate remedial action is taken and/or report conditions to appropriate authorities for corrective action.
  • Help organize, lead, and track maintenance staff training.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of multi-disciplinary teams in responding to emergencies, and inclement weather, and providing project support.
  • Prepare job estimates of materials, labor, and equipment for assigned projects and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Suite office products (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Excel, etc.) and the ability to learn new systems. We use Cityworks and Peoplesoft extensively in our daily processes.
  • Knowledge in performing maintenance repairs and operating light equipment including, mowers, plows, pressure washers, etc.
  • Have a basic understanding and the ability to perform general landside and airfield maintenance.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO:

  • Have experience managing teams.
  • Have a safety-first mentality.
  • Can manage the workload of other staff, including determining, prioritizing, scheduling, and obtaining all necessary resources (employees, materials, and equipment) to complete multiple projects.
  • Have an understanding of job/project cost estimation.
  • Are able to read maps, blueprints and schematic drawings.
  • Are able to recognize, resolve, and monitor complex and/or technical problems or hazards in the field related to maintenance activities.
  • Are customer-focused; can respond professionally to customer and tenant inquiries.
  • Have experience developing and implementing maintenance work plans.
  • Have experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as CityWorks, M5, and/or Maximo.
  • Advanced computer operating system knowledge such as Microsoft Office Suite experience, using Windows, Outlook, PowerPoint etc.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE: It’s great if you have the following experience, but if you don’t, please still apply:

  • Have knowledge of airport systems and facilities, including airport safety and operating requirements.
  • Have a broad understanding of airfield maintenance techniques and practices per the FAA regulations.

Supplemental Information

Work location: The primary work location for this position is at King County International Airport/Boeing Field; 6518 Ellis Ave S. Seattle, WA 98108.

Work schedule This position works a 4/10-hour shift on a day, swing, or weekend crew schedule. Weekend schedules include a Saturday or Sunday. Current opening is for Wednesday - Saturday and Sunday – Wednesday shift. Schedules are subject to change and based on seniority.

This full-time position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standard act and is overtime eligible. Overtime work may be required. Alternate shift work including nights, weekends, holidays as well as extended and/or flex scheduled work hours may be required to meet the operational business needs of the Airport. For all positions during scheduled runway closures or snow and ice operations, there is no scheduled time off.

The work associated with this position is performed onsite; this is not a telework position. Employees must reside on Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
